Hi Guys

My Ouverture laser has stopped working ,I have been in touch with several B and O dealers who have quoted over£250.00 to fit a new one that's a lot of money , does anyone know where I can source one and get it fitted cheaper

There is a guy on YOU TUBE who demonstrates how to get the laser out and fit a new one but it looks like a fiddly job to me, a man has got to know his limitations and if I had a go at it I would probably finish up wanting a complete new unit .

I would appreciate it if anyone knows where Ican get repaired relatively cheaply.  I am in Staffordshire

I did look into this quite recently. I searched the internet in the suggested places but could not find a suitable replacement laser for this particular CD drive type at a reasonable price.

Lasers would appear to be available quite cheaply for CDM4 types  (£15 or so) but the price for replacements for CDM Pro types were around £100

Maybe I was looking in the wrong place so I am also anxious to hear from others who may have had more success.

In the end, I bought a CD mechanism from B&O

Roan, do you know what i think mate, get it done at B&O, would save you a load of trouble if all goes wrong and their work is guaranteed. i think £250 plus is a small price to pay for a job well done and the peace of mind you will have for years and years afterwards. failing that get yourself a cheap beo system 2300/2500 same meat different gravy! joeyboy sold me a mint one quite a few years ago and touchwood its as good and as mint as when he first sold it to me. worth their weight in gold.

It has been said over and over again here on Beoworld: When B&O CD-players stops working -or begin to have trouble playing CD's, it's very seldom because of a "dead" laser. That's the reason many repair-shops give you, because they only want to change modules -instead of actually try to repair the device. The problem is often caused by defective caps -once they're replaced it will play for many more years.

I hate to think about how many fully functional CD-mechs that has been replaced because of those incompetent (or lazy) technicians.
Do a little research here on Beoworld and you'll find threads about changing the caps. (for ex. - look for member "dillen"). Or try to find a repair shop that can/will repair your nice device.

Thanks for the advice, perhaps it would be more cost efective to take it to a Band O dealer and have the job done properly after all it will be guaranteed
