    Help please. Beolink 7000 malfunctioning?

    Dear All,

I am experiencing some problems with my BL 7000.  It no longer shows the time when it is on the table charger; rather, it shows the red dot.  The second problem that I attribute to the BL 7000 is the reduced range.  I practically have to hold the remote in front of the Beomaster 7000 to activate the system.

    Any diagnosis from anyone?

    Thanks in advance.

The Clock problem might be caused by a setting in the menu. In the Setup menu you can set CLOCK from Yes to No. The other problem could be caused by problems with capacitors that need to be changed.

...in the Beomaster, most probably. I've fixed a few with a similar problem, and all needed new caps in the power supply and the CPU board.

The clock problem can be due to the same issue; the Beolink receives the time initially from the Beomaster, and if that transmission is lost, it doesn't know the time.

It can also be capacitors in BeoLink 7000 (especially the SMD-capacitors next to the IR-eye), I have repaired several already, and this is a more common problem than the BeoMaster. But to make sure, just try the BeoLink 7000 on another 2-way product. The displaying of the clock can be switched off in the menu of BeoLink 7000, so that could also be the case.

Repaired 6 and all caps need to be replaced near the IR of the BL7000.

    Beovirus? What's that?

Well it can of course be a problem in both. The cap problem usually affects the IR receiver end - if only the Beolink is faulty, it should still command the Beomaster from far away, but will fail in receiving the response -> "no contact".

It's easy to check with a one-way remote (Beo4 or Beolink 1000). If they need to be near the Beomaster as well, it needs service.

Hmm, good one. @Wings, do you have a BeoLink 1000 or another remote? If you do, please let us know what the result is!

Re: Help please. Beolink 7000 malfunctioning?

    Thanks to all of you.

My Beocentre 2500 is two-way so I can try out the Beolink 7000 on that [once I get everything hooked up again].  I have a Beo4 which I will try with the Beomaster 7000 from across the room.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the setting for the BL7000 has been on "clock" so the time should be showing.

I will report back on my results.

    Thanks again!

Re: Help please. Beolink 7000 malfunctioning?

    Dear All,

    Here are the results:

BL7000 with the BC2500:  they work.  The BL7000 controls the BC2500 when the remote is pointed directly at the BC2500, when the remote is pointed at the wall to the left, when the remote is pointed at the wall to the right and when the remote is pointed at the wall facing the BC2500.

Beo4 with the Beomaster 7000:  not as successful.  The BM7000 responds only if the remote is pointed directly at it.  The BM7000 also responds if the remote is pointed directly at it from across the room, keeping in mind that in Hong Kong, "across the room" is about six feet from the BM7000.

What is the next step?  Use the Beo4 until the BM7000 totally dies and then replace all the capacitors in the BM7000?

Yes, after your experiments I guess it's now safe to say the Beomaster needs work.

IMHO it would be good to have the Beomaster serviced while it still works; there's always a slight chance of more damage if one of the filter caps dies completely.

It doesn't necessarily need a full recap, just the small electrolytics in the power supply and the 3-4 caps in the CPU module. It should be less than an hour of work for somebody who knows what he's doing.

It's curious that this mostly affects Beomaster 7000s, while the older 6500s usually still work OK. Perhaps B&O used better quality caps in the older series.

Re: Help please. Beolink 7000 malfunctioning?

    Thanks, Mika.

I do not know what I am doing -- I refer to my on-going saga with my Beogram 7000 --so perhaps it would be best to contact B&O Service for a quote on repair costs.  [Meanwhile, I will find a second job to pay for all this.  All things electronic are presenting difficulties recently:  BG7000, BM7000, BL4500 and yesterday, my laptop.]
