Friday afternoon the Fabric Selector and I loaded our offspring into the car and headed north. A six and a half hour drive later and we were on the outskirts of Charleston, South Carolina. The next day we did some sightseeing during the day, then had my birthday crab boil dinner in a great restaurant down at the river.
Sunday we loaded up again and went another two hours north, because JaffBay was open.
For those of you who don't know, JaffBay is run by a pleasant chap named Jeff, who is also known around these parts as Jaff and Burantek. A month or two ago, I was lamenting once again being sniped on Ebay for some receiver or another which I had hoped would become mine and end up driving my refurbished Beovox M70s (see the thread that won't die). Something with a little more power than my Beomaster 1900 or 2400.
Jeff replies to the lament, and I paraphrase, "Get in your car and drive on up to JaffBay." Much electronic communication later, a plan was set and finally the time had come.
Jeff and his lovely wife SWIRO, along with their offspring, were kind enough to host my family for an authentic South Carolina barbeque dinner. A few cocktails later, some listening to music was done, and our business was completed. Many kind words were exchanged, as was a promise to meet again.
My family piled back in the car and headed back to the outskirts of Charleston for the night. This morning it was more driving, this time on to home. After unpacking the car, I was left with two somewhat large boxes on my kitchen table.

What's in the taller of the two boxes?
Why it's a Beogram CD X! This will replace the cheap Magnavox DVD player in my system.

This baby will replace the NAD 7175PE in the system.

That, my friend, was a "laugh out loud."
Nope. JaffBay features only fully original grill/fret cloth/fabric.

A near mint Beogram 4002!
I don't think either of JaffBay's 4000's were for sale, and I wouldn't have taken one anyway. I'm not going to be the guy Jaff has seller's remorse over.

And out of the box.
The JaffBay packing method includes:
1) Of course tighten the transport screws in the transport position. On the 4002 there are 3 screws on the bottom of the deck. That was new to me having only owned the RX 2 (where everything's under the platter).
2) Strategically placing a few packing peanuts under the tonearm to block movement up and down and side to side.
3) Taping some thin bubble wrap under the dust cover and onto the bottom and top of the deck.
4) Removing and packing separately the platters, belt, and cartridge (an MMC3000).
5) Wrapping the cords in their own bubble wrap.
6) Lots of bubble wrap in a box!
7) TLC during transport!

She works. That's Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut" playing, though I didn't get a shot of it where you could read the label.
Probably my all time favorite record.

And here's a shot of everything integrated into the system.
Top (sixth) shelf, partially out of view, has nothing on it save the FM antenna.
Next shelf down (fifth shelf), the Beogram CD X wired to the selector box (RCA cable to RCA jacks) on the second shelf.
Fourth shelf, the Beogram 4002/MMC3000 (RCA cable) wired to the phono input of the Beomaster 4000.
Third shelf, the Beomaster 4000. I plugged a folded dipole antenna into it that I bought for the BM 1900. Purchased from Ebay seller "lazerwave," a vendor I highly recommend.
Second shelf, left to right:
- iPod Touch 4th generation 64 gigabyte in a Sherwood docking station purchased from Parts Express for $59. This docking station is a solid piece for $59, is a charger, and will not only pass audio signal but video as well. Plus it comes with a remote! Highly recommended piece. The docking station is wired (RCA audio only) to the switch box next to it.
- Analog only 4 in/1 out A/V switcher from Dynex, purchased for $32 at Best Buy just this afternoon. I will buy a switchbox from Sounds Heavenly in the next week or two, but this little switchbox will get me by for now. It seems to attenuate the signal 6 or 9 dB, which is a Bad Thing, but I get to hook up all the gear I want in the meantime. It was either this little box, or keep my NAD 7175PE in the system as a second preamp. I'd rather that piece get packed away for now. The Dynex switch box output 1 (RCA cable) is wired to the Tape 1 input of the Beomaster. Its output 2 (RCA cable) is wired to the Beocord 2400 below.
- Beocord 4500. Its DIN cable is hooked to the DIN Tape 2 input of the Beomaster.
First (bottom) shelf, Beocord 2400. As noted above, the input of the BC 2400 is wired to the output 2 of the Dynex switch box. The output of the BC 2400 is also wired to the Dynex switch box.

Your ears should have been ringing about 6:00 pm Sunday, because you, sir, were discussed! (As were some others! )
Jaff and I came to the conclusion that one of us is going to send you an RX 2 to get you started in vinyl! What are your musical tastes? I'll need to send you some vinyl as well, since you have none yet!

Thank you, Soren. I only did enough listening to verify things were wired correctly. My kids were already asleep, and the Fabric Selector was not far behind. More serious listening will be accomplished tomorrow.

Are you going to pair your BM 4000 with your S45s with the stands you built? Jaff just loves his S45s, and that's all we listened to at his place.
