    New Software!

The long promised 2-way integration with Beo6 is finally here (or so says the screen on my BS5).  The "readme" also mentions something about allowing iOS devices to play music stored on the the BM5, and the ability to use the USB port similar to an AUX input (there's apparently a USB to Phono adapter).  Since this is the first post I've seen here about this, my next stop, B&O site for possibly more information.

For me right now (don't have a Beo6, an iOS device or this USB to Phono adaptor) all that the new release did was lose all of my N.Radio favorites Angry... although longer term, there's probably a Beo6 in my future.Big Smile

    Re: New Software!

Soooo typical.  Nothing is found on the B&O website about these new features  Surprise... even though, my BS5 continues to tell me to look there for additional information.

I guess I'll just wait for the good people on beoworld to fill me in...  thanks in advance

I do not have this info on my Beosound. I have software update set to automatic and have tried manually checking for software update.

Unless I am not looking in the right place for it.

    Re: New Software!

    Most peculiar!

The BS5 software version displayed when I go into "maintenance mode" is 6.03.00.2455.  Mine is also set up for automatic updates, and I did nothing to make get this update.  I would not have even noticed if all of my N.Radio favorites had not disappeared (this happened last time there was a major updates).  I had been listening via linkroom all week, and had not even looked at my BS5.  When my N.Radio stations disappeared, I went to see what was the problem, and the "readme" screen, describing all of the new features, was displaying on the BS5.

It seems like I may have accidentally received this too early?

    Re: New Software!

    No Update yet.

    Mine shows version 6.02.00.1902

Looking forward to the update. I still don't understand that B&O is not advising its BM5/BS5 customer base upfront of any changes. With the registration they have our email addresses....

    Re: New Software!

Nothing special here : B&O seems to do like other manufacturers : they push a pre-release (let's say Golden Master) of the software to a reduced number of customers, and then look at the error logs they get from those customers to see if everything is fine. Then they push the update to everybody.

Looking at the french forum, it seems that Jeano has big problems with this update : maybe for this timr it's a chance if you didn't got this specific update.

This makes sense.  So far, aside from the loss of my favorites, this update seems fine for me.

Thanks mbee and Stan for this information.  It looks like there are going to be a lot of new possibilities for the Beosound 5.  I had noticed significantly increased network activity on the Beomaster 5 at around 2 am central time and checked to see if any changes had been made.  It appeared nothing had changed and I ignored it.  I hope the error free software is loaded soon.  I might even buy a Beo6....maybe!

    Re: New Software!

Move the mode selector to "Settings", but do not enter.  Press '>>', '>>', GO, this will give you the expanded Settings menu...  I think the software version is under "Product Information"

To get a 2 way experience I would need a device to send and receive signals from eg an IOS device; any ideas how this problem is/would be solved? Do I have to buy a W-LAN stick - and try to get it run on windows (!!!!!)? I don't thinks that there is already something installed within the BM5 waiting only to be activated by software-update...

    regards, elmar

You just need to have a wireless network in your home and have your BM5 connected to the network either via a wireless network adapter or wired directly into your LAN via ethernet cable.

    Re: New Software!

    As I understand correctly:

The Beosound 5 finally get's AUX IN functionality via USB-Audiointerface? That's great news!

    Could you use any USB-Audiointerface?

Wouldn't it be great if we could have a USB to DIN connector and have the BeoSound 5 send datalink commands to a BeoGram or BeoCord? I know that's backwards-thinking on my part and there would be a very small market for that. Still, the thought of the possibility is so nice!

    Re: New Software!

I think it is great to hear that B&O open up for 3rd parties, like Apple. And I hope that B&O will keep open for, I believe this will increase the value of a BS5 system if it easy can interoperate with other systems.

And since BM5 is "just" a PC, then why not?

I do not have any Apple products (yet, I have to admit), but a LOT of people do have some kind of Apple, and looking at the BS8 sales, there must be a market potential here for B&O.

    There is something about B&O.....

    Re: New Software!

B&O accidentally put the update on the server which sends it out. Some of you may have gotten the update some of you may haven't. If you haven't it is for the better as the new update was purely a test version not meant for final use and has problems all over the place. If you have gotten it you will need to restore your BM5 then update to the current version via B&O. This is the only work around for right now. But at least you know what to expect when the update comes out :)

Thanks for the information.  You are correct.  Even though this was an accident, we now have a greater understanding of what to expect.  However this does highlights B&O's management problem with this product which is lack of communication.  For those Beosound 5 owners who have the misfortune of not being aware of Beoworld, one can only wonder how they knew what the problem was or how to resolved the problem.
