Beo 5 Software - should I get it updated.

I have just got hold of a Beo5 running SW version 1.45a.

I have had a good look around the forum but can't see what is the latest version - the Beo 5 resource site says 1.43a is the latest but I assume that must be out of date. I'm about to contact my local B&O dealer to see if they will update the software to the latest (if 1.45a isn't the latest) because when I use the config tool it wants a password etc before allowing the update.

How long would the update take - I guess a few minutes like the programming updates, and what would be a reasonable charge? Also, is it worth updating?

I have also messed about with the cofig tool and think I will get the hang of it eventually Smile and I'm in the middle of designing new buttons and slightly neater freeview channel logos. The Beo5 config tool manual talks about logos & buttons needing to be 92 x 44 pixels but I see other sizes - do I take it that the 92 x 44 is the MAXIMUM size.

    Thanks in advance

Your Beo5 is running with the latest firmware. Your tool must be version 4.11.
You will not be able to get the updates unless you have a valid retail login, and I guess that you have not. So you must always work in offline mode.

The logos must be within 92 by 44 pixels, if you make them larger, they will not be better, only take up more space in your Beo5's memory.

    Thank you Guffas,

It's nice to know my Beo5 has the latest firmware. (called software on the remote itself).

The reason I asked if the was an issue over having bigger than 92 by 44 pixel buttons is that on some of the screens where I only have one or two buttons I wanted to make them bigger but the design I have come up with looks OK that size so no need for bigger buttons.

I have a Marantz RC9500 Touchscreen remote here which is completely customisable and I'm trying to get the Beo5 to be the same! Getting my head round the Beo config program is hard because the Marantz is so different but practice makes perfect and I'll be having another try on the weekend. The buttons on the screen of the Beo5 seem to be able to be placed in only those 12 spots on screen whereas my Marantz allows butoons anywhere, so I'm learning to work withi the restrictions.

    Regards

    Hi Stoobie,

if you want to make custom screens, this is possible. When a level is completely free of buttons it's possible to change the screen type.

A free level can be created by making a button with submenu. You can also move all buttons to the clipboard, but be careful with this, it may crash you configuration. Load old version is a good feature if this happens.

    Possible screen type are: 4x3, 4x2, 4x1, 3x3, 3x2, 2x2, and 1x1

If you want to use graphics on the buttons you must keep the size according to this list:

    • 4x3 (92 by 44)
    • 3x3 (92 by 54)
    • 2x2 (140 by 92)
    • 1x1 (255 by 188)
    • 4x1 (255 by 44)
    • 4x2 (140 by 44)
    • 3x2 (92 by 92)

    Hi again Guffas,

That is very helpful. I'll have a go this weekend and maybe post a few screen shots of my design once I have some worth seeing. If people like them I'm more than happy to make up zip file and pass it on to who ever wants.
