    Serene Motor Issues

Any other Serene users still on the forum?

My Serene suddenly started making odd motor noises, ending with the motor apparently not working at all and the phone not being fully closeable (i.e. the phone stayed in a half open position and you could feel resistance if you forced it closed.)

Even turning off the 'Auto open' did not disengage the motor properly leaving the phone half open.

Eventually I tried switching between 'Auto on' and 'Auto off' in the settings menu, and after doing this several times the phone motor suddenly started working again. At this present moment the phone is opening and closing again properly.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone got an explanation?

(I seem to remember a YouTube clip of a Serene opening and closing like one of those toy chattering false teeth jokes!)

Both Serene and Serenata are in my possession, have had the serene for over 4 years, and it has been slightly tempremental just like serenata, some strange things happen i think it's just part of the B&O mobile phone charm - It's like buying an Alfa

    Re: Serene Motor Issues

I have also experienced the motor issue in few instances:

If I turn off the phone over night and have an alarm set up for morning, if I 'CONFIRM' (turn off the alarm) the phone will not close all the way. It has to be turned on for the motor to reset itself and start working properly.

The other instance, is almost everytime somebody 'new' grabs my phone and just opens it and closes it quickly, the motor I guess panics or something and shoots the phone open and closed two times. It's funny to watch people's reaction to it, as in my eyes, I think the Serene just "bites back" the ones with lesser intelect, that can't wrap their silly brain around a fact that this phone has a servo-powered hinge.

I spoke too soon. After 24 hours of 'Normal' operation the motorised opening suddenly seems to have failed completely. Not only that but the phone hinge is extremely hot and the battery appears to be running down very fast on the display.

Not the first time I've had an overheating/ fast battery discharge problem on this phone. The last time involved a B&O repair under guarantee..... when the phone came back with its hinge looking as if it had been gripped with pliers during the repair.

Might have to go looking for a new phone tomorrow..... not B&O this time!

    Re: Serene Motor Issues

After the first few people I've shown my Serene to, I have decided not to let anyone else touch it! When I demonstrate it, people think it makes a sound to appear motorized! IndifferentConfused

My Serene hasn't gone into lack jaw mode. (Knock on wood!!!)

I have seen that video on youtube, before I got my Serene even. Didn't scare me!! (Keeps knocking on wood!!)

    Maybe do a full/complete reset?

EDIT: Almost forgot, the Serene is a great conversation starter with girls! A girl next to me in my math class asked me what it was on Tuesday. Laughing

Overnight charge switched off. Then I'll try it again tomorrow. If it works without overheating I might just leave the auto opening switched off.

Well today it auto opened once before failing again. Fortunately I'v managed to switch-off the auto open and haven't had a repeat of the half-open hot hinge and run-down battery. So the phone will remain a manual open phone until it's replaced.

Sounds like the folder motor has failed - only repair is in Denmark and it will be silly expensive!

    Re: Serene Motor Issues

After a few days of getting used to my manual opening of the phone I decided to switch on the auto open again to see what would happen. The phone has reverted to completely normal motorised opening and closing, with no strange noises or stopping half open etc.

I have to confess to being totally mystified by the phone's behaviour. I could understand the motor burning out or contacts being displaced causing the opening to stop in the wrong place, but after a hot hinge then no motor functions it's odd that it's returned to normal (for the moment!)
