BEOGRAM RX2 MATS? any such thing?

i got my first b@o TT off ebay a month or so back. i know nothing about them other than every one i have heard sounded awsome even on low to mid fi rigs.

mine came with a bare aluminum platter with the strobe marks on it. i cant believe that you would put an lp directly on that, correct? my TT has a round black 45 adapter on the spindle that appears to not come off, so is there a special mat you have to get for it or will any hi quality mat do the job? and of course...... where can i purchase one?

the only other thing is the platter seems to sit a bit lopsided in the table. the front edge of the platter is dead level with the table and the rear portion sits above the edge of the table about 1/16 to 1/8". seems like if i tried to run an lp on it now it would scrape on the top of the table. platter spins when i turn it. at first it seemed like it would not spin far and stop but i pushed down on the 45 adapter and the whole plater sunk into the table and i let go [all of this very gently] and then it seemed to spin without stopping abruptly. but, the platter is lopsided in the table.

any and all info would help. and of course, the 100,000 dollar question.........

where can i get cartridges for this other than watching ebay and hoping it isnt worn down or abused or buying the one from soundsmith?

sorry to be so long winded with my first post, but i am dying to get back into my vinyl.

    WAX ON!!!!

The strobe marks are raised Nextel and it is perfectly safe to put an LP directly on this. Some people do put a felt mat on though it spoils the looks.

Check you have completely undone the transit screws and the deck should be level, Sometimes the suspension does need some adjusting in older decks but the transit screws are the usual culprit.

You can get the older cartridges re-tipped by Axel which is much cheaper than a new Soundsmith cartridge.

The Doctor rules, but a warning, the cartridges MMC from B&O are all getting a bit older, inside the cartridge there is a rubber or silicone suspention, this suspention gets weak or detorriates over the years, the result is that the needle loses support and the cartridge housing start riding on your disk (LP), result, skating and no sound. This happens to all MMCs as the last ones made from B&O was in the early 1990th.

My MMC 4 went bad 2 month ago, and last week I got a Beogram 6500 with MMC 2, the TT has not been working since 1993 and as I tried the MMC 2 on my Beogram 2404, it played 1.5 LP and was done for.

My advise: Buy a new one or repair the old one, Axel Germany, Soundsmith US there is one more in the US, but I just heard about him, and he only does MMC 4/5 and not 2/3.

Good luck and no mat the deck is a beauty.
