    BM 5 defect ?

Having read earlier posts, I understand that Beomaster 5 occasionally has motherboard issues.

My Beomaster 5 seems to have lost its life:
Does not react to commands of BS5,
no screen on BS5, therefore no blue screen, green light ok on BM 5,
no n.music, no n.radio available, internet does not connect.

Could it be a faulty motherboard ? (mine dates from early 2009)

If the case, I would assume that B&O treats it as a policy // warranty replacement.

Any similar experiences ? appreciate advice.

Unfortunately, I'd say some similar experiences with 2009 units ...

The MB / Memory issues have been solved 1st Q. 2010 and recent
units are, from personal experience, working flawlessly!

But - as a first step:

Please disconnect the unit for minimum of 15 minutes from power
    - in the meantime you can check if all cables to the BeoSound 5 are
    still properly plugged in!

After 15 min restore power an let the BM5 start - sometimes this helps.

If not - consult dealer / service for a warranty exchange of the faulty part(s).

    Good luck!

Yes, I had exactly the same issue with my unit from early 2009. The motherboard was replaced and now works great. Suggest you contact your dealer.

My BM5 just died Sad Same  symptoms as above.  Bought it June of last year.  I guess I should be happy the defect showed up within the warranty period (unlike my last 2 apple laptops).

My BM5 died a couple of month ago, and had the motherboard and memory replaced.

It works again......what else could you expect of a premium priced product.

    There is something about B&O.....

    Er ...

Not having to have such crucial internal things like the motherboard and memory replaced and the associated trouble getting it fixed, researching and fault finding that goes before?

    Erm

    Wink....I must agree.

With the problems we have had until now (SW and HW issues), it is hard to convince my wife that this is actually a brilliant product.

When it works, she normally says Stick out tongue, and I do understand her.

Now I just cross my fingers.

    Re: BM 5 defect ?

    Speaking of the wife...

I've been laying the ground work for a BV8-40... but in the last two years or so, my BS3 broke, my Wireless1s required an upgrade, my Beo5's keypad peeled, my other BS3 broke and now my BM5 is dead.  Yes, everything was fixed under warranty in a timely manner (no reason to assume anything different with the BM5 which I haven't yet delivered to the dealer for fixing).  However, the wife says "are you SURE about spending that much money for a TV when EVERYTHING you've bought lately has broke?".  To be fair, everything hasn't broke.  Within the same period, I have a BL3500, BL4s and BeoLink Active that are just fine, but my recent experience is nothing close to almost 10 years of flawless service from my BeoComs, BS9000 and assorted BLs.  She has a point.

In the past, I've been able to get around the cost issue by claiming B&O is built like a tank and lasts forever.  Lately, not so much.  The road to the BV8 just got much steeper.

    Re: BM 5 defect ?

Back in business with BM 5. Dealer replaced motherboard to the "Dec 2009 spec upgrade" and provided excellent service & update of progress & reinstallation. Well done Chris !

PS. despite a BS 3200, the capabilities of BM5 / BS5 were truly missed.

    Hi to all,

my BM5 also crashed today ! At BS5 the red light on the top is red. No reaction at all ! Hope it´s "only" the motherboard.

    Ciao

    ciao cleo

    Re: BM 5 defect ?

looks like my earlier (now resolved) problem. Apparently dealer got a full replacement kit which includes m/b for repair. Seems to be a clear and present weakness of BM5...

Hope your dealer is as quick and supportive as mine.

    Re: BM 5 defect ?

When my unit got to the repair shop, they could not replicate the problem... BUT, they replaced the motherboard anyway, and it is working like a charm.  It was missed.
