I've been trying to plug in a 10-yearold SONY CD player to my Beomaster 1000. It's plugged in using a RCA-DIN cable. The output volume gets very very low.

Same thing if I connect the CD to a Beomaster 3000-2 DIN socket. However, if I connect it to the Beomaster 3000 using the RCA socket the volume is at a normal level.

I have also tried other devices e.g an iPhone using the RCA-DIN cable with the same low-volume-result.

Any ideas why the volume is so low using the DIN sockets?

Most likely your cable is wired for the wrong direction (out from the DIN to the RCA). The DIN connector can carry signal both ways, but if you have a 5-pin DIN to 2xRCA adapter, it can only cater for one of them.

I suspected the cable to be the cause, and your answer makes sense. I didn't buy the cable myself so I don't know if its the wrong direction, but it most probably is.

You can get 2 X RCA to DIN plugs but they must be wired correctly, ie:- 2 X RCA to pins 2,3,5.

Pin 2 is common L&R ground (earth) pins 3 & 5 are left & right channels. Sounds like yours is wired 1, 2 & 4 in which case you would get exactly what you describe.

I cut the cable up and rewired it myself, as you said.

It did the trick, and the volume level is now ok.
