UK Phone compatibility abroad.
Does anyone know if a UK Beocom 1600 will work in Malaysia?

Keith Saunders:
It should work in Malaysia because they adopted the British phone spec, however you will need a BT to RJ11 adapter which you can get from someone like Maplin HERE
Thanks Keith, I was checking as I have just sold a Beocom 1600 to someone in Malaysia. They are sayign that the cannot get a dialing tone from it. It was working pefectly when I tried it a home. It would not make any difference that there was a DSL filter conected to the phone when I got it, and tested it. When I shipped it I removed the filter.

Re: UK Phone compatibility abroad.
Craig,
If the phone was working before you sent it and they cannot get a dialing tone, then the most likely cause will be that they are using the incorrect adapter on the phone line cable. Pins 2 & 5 on the BT plug are the line signal.
I suggest you check they have used the correct adapter because there are several types of BT to RJ11 adapters which look exactly the same, but the wiring is different. For example the adapter used with dialup modems which many people try and use will not work because it is wired for the US phone standard.
