Questions about Beomaster 3000-2 and S45-2

Hello everyone, I have a bunch of questions about my new purchases so any and all help is appreciated.

    Beomaster 3000-2 (T 2402)

    1) FM antenna
I bought a terk fractal antenna (the FM+ model) but it does not fit. What do I do?/Any recommendations?

    2) The "STEREO" indicator does not work. New bulb?/Where to find one?

    3) What is AFC? and how do I use it?
Is there a user manual for the 3000/-2? Couldn't find one on site.

    4) There is a bunch of black gunk on the aluminum face and controls from use. Again, recommendations on how to remove this stuff?

    5) Should I haveit re-capped? It sounds very good now, could it sound better? Worth doing? etc

    Beovox S45-2

    1) They sound great, should I restore the crossover? Again, re-capp? Worth doing?

Thats all I can think of right now, I know I had more to ask. Over the course of a few days I compiled a list but seem to have misplaced it! Laughing

    Thank you as always

    Evan

We don't have the 3000 manual but the Beocenter 3500 is on and the operation is identical (except for the record player!)

I would not recap anything at present - enjoy it first.

AFC should be off when you tune and switched on once the channels you want are set. It keeps the tuning steady.

A little alcohol on cotton wool or simply some detergent a water will clean the fascia. You can take it all apart but I wouldn't!

The stereo indicator may not work without an aerial. You should be able to find the correct plug on the internet.

    Thanks Peter.

I am definitely not going to take it apart, it is rock solid!

Is there a particular name for that specific connector/connection?

Don't make the antenna thing too complicated. Radio waves have travelled dozens of miles through plain air to reach your house, they are not going to stop due to a plug or the lack of one... Just stick a 1 meter piece of loose wire inside the antenna connector and it'll work well enough to try out the tuner.

    Evan,

Are you using the square pancake Terk?

Can you post a pic of the end? (I have seen different ends on these)

I am certain I have the correct connector.

Re: Questions about Beomaster 3000-2 and S45-2

I understand the elemental aspect of an antenna Mika. I have a Terk on my BM4500 and it works great. Better reception than my old dipole. I would really like it to work. Plus I have already bought one!

    Jeff,
Yes, it is the square pancake one. I bought what I think is exactly like what I bought for my 4500. The one for the 4500 connected without problem. The one I purchased for the 3000 was not compared side to side with the first one, so there may very well be a difference. I will post a picture later today once I get home. In the process of trying to get the antenna to fit, I broke it during modification hahaha (the BM is fine! no worries everyone lol) so actually seeing the connector would be useless. I'll try and find a pic of a similar one though.

Here is a pic of the antenna Jeff
EDIT: Now updated pic with connector shown

TERK FM+ Indoor FM only Stereo Antenna

There is pin in the middle, with a flowering collar/sleeve and a ring that goes around the collar to keep it from expanding.

Initially I broke off two of the flowered bits, and eventually all hahaha. So now there is a shortened collar with a jagged edge. Un-returnable I suppose! Laughing

Well, this could prove to be an issue!

    1.) The connector/adapter that I could provide won't socket w/o the petals.

2.) W/O the petals how would external continuity be maintained? Solder a lead between the two?

    3.) Patience is a virtue.

Well, now that the antenna plug is a goner anyway - snap it off, strip an inch or so of the cable, jam the sleeve into the other hole in the antenna connector, the center wire into the other, and rock on Stick out tongue

Yes Jeff, patience is a good quality to have. It was not broken out of frustration or impatience, just really easy to break!

Well, should I try and repair the end to original state? Or can I attatch it to the higher ohm rated antenna input with basic leads? I am going to head to the shack now and see if they have anything of use.

BTW Jeff, could you post a pic of the connector you have?

I will be happy to post a pic... Don't bother w/ the Shack yet.

In fact, why not just source the correct one if you have to repair it anyway? Perhaps my adaptor could simply replace what you broke -and you are good to go.

In the meantime... take Mika's advice -you'll have to split it up anyway for the repair!

Re: Questions about Beomaster 3000-2 and S45-2

So I coud use that if I had not destroyed the end on my terk! So the terk end is one that is sized the same as coax?

Re: Questions about Beomaster 3000-2 and S45-2

So what do you recommend I do? Just use the wire leads on he ~200 ohm input or fashion the proper lead and use the ~75 ohm input?

Re: Questions about Beomaster 3000-2 and S45-2

So should I fashion the correct lead and use the ~75 ohm input or cut the mangled end off and leave it to be used with bare leads in the ~200 ohm input?

    BTW Peter,

You're advice regarding the cleanup has been tested, and it looks great! Almost new! Thanks.
