    Beovox 1600 types?

I just picked up a pair of Beovox 1600s at the flea market for almost nothing. They are in pretty rough shape but sound fantastic.

I managed to get one of the grills off and was surprised to see just a woofer and a tweeter, having read the 1600 is a three-way speaker (http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=437). Then I noticed on the back it says 'Type 6219, Series 02'.

The 1600 described on the web is type '6228' (http://www.beocentral.com/products/bvox1600).

Anyone know anything about the two-way version?

    Re: Beovox 1600 types?

Beovox 1600 are quite rare but wonderful panel speakers.
It's correct that two versions were produced, but both versions are two-way.
Type 6219 (mk1) has a Peerless cone tweeter and Heco woofer
Type 6228 (mk2) has a Philips dome tweeter and Celestion woofer.

The Beovox 1200 (not 1600) was available in no less than three different versions, both
two-way and three-way. The earliest version of Beovox 1200 had the exact same drivers
as the Beovox 1600 (mk1), only in a thicker box cabinet.
Maybe this is what you read about.

The "Series 2" is a production "batch" number, not always referring to a
    change in the actual product.
Some Beovox 1600 have the neat metal B&O logo on the front while others have a square
silver plastic batch with black lettering.

Worth restoring and we like photos.  Laughing

Thanks Martin. What you are saying does not agree at all with the descriptions on the webpages I mentioned above (the same text appears on both of those pages, just copied from one to the other). Of course I trust your word above someone else's, but then which speaker is actually being described on those webpages?

I'm afraid the info on both Beocentral and Beoworld is wrong.
Both versions of the Beovox 1600 were definitely two-way.
Here the type 6228 from my own collection (actually the exact same speakers as pictured on
    both Beoworld and Beocentral):

Oh yes, those are the ones I have. Only on mine the wood cabinets are about a thousand times uglier.

What would you use on the wood?

Hey, those grills were not really meant to be removed were they?

    Re: Beovox 1600 types?

The grills can be removed but it's rarely needed in practice.
Not too difficult to disassemble but you will have to countersink the
nails to behind the cloth when assembling them again.

Post a photo or two of your speakers and we may be able to guide
you with regards to refurbishing the wooden cabinets.

I have some images. How do I upload them?

    two ways,

    • one via your profile -- from where you then copy their links -- and reference them in your posts
    • or directly into the post, but you have to use "reply" not "quick reply", and then look at the "Options" tab behind the "Compose" tab message input area

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Here are some images: The front rim on one of the corners has been crushed inward. There are  scratches and damaged corners and the veneer in general is dry. The particleboard underneath is crumbling.
