Anyone seen this turntable before? Labcraft??

Spotted this odd turntable on ebay.  Anyone know what it is about?

Martin is your man for odd decks like these. I am pretty sure we have seen one before though - it is a Beogram 1000 with a different arm fitted. HMV did the same.

Also looks like a (admittedly offbeat) candidate for adding to our list of Beograms with inbuilt RIAA.

Personally I don't particularly like the aesthetics, which is often the case when people alter B&O pieces.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

Re: Anyone seen this turntable before? Labcraft??

I've seen quite a few 42/609/610/Beogram 1000 based record players
from other producers, HMV, Triotrack, Skandinavisk etc. but
I never saw this one before. Neither did I ever hear about Labcraft.

I agree that the tonearm looks a bit clumsy if compared to B&O's but
    it's an interesting deck none-the-less.

The dustcover will probably have been replaced at some point, I don't
think the B&O logo would have been there originally.
On the other hand, the cutouts for the tonearm look original.

    Well spotted !

I saw the His Master's Voice version at a flea market last summer. That one is butt ugly!

There is another one also listed in Ausralia.Hmm Although the plinth and headshell are missing.

Re: Anyone seen this turntable before? Labcraft??

The last one I'm sure was mounted in another furniture of some kind.
It was quite common back then to fit a deck like this into existing furniture and several
B&O record decks could be ordered as build-in modules without cabinets.

Seeing a Labcraft/B&O turntable is a first for me.
Seeing one for sale is even more unusual.
Seeing two for sale at the same time is downright strange.
And both are in Australia - why ?  Hmm

Perhaps Labcraft was Australian? (I actually found talk on these on audiokarma.org from two years back, in Oz as well)

As the latter is claimed to be from a library, it makes sense to think that they may have been installed in a desk.

Or what do you think? Smile

Stating to think that they were for library use then. Maybe the one in the first link has been put into a Beogram 1000 plinth after.
