    MCL-2P, ML/MCL Converter, BeoLink Passive??

    Hi all,

I think I know the answer to my question but wanted someone to confirm. I have an Ouverture masterlinked to a BV 8 without separate speakers. In the closet is an old pair of BeoVox CX-100's, which I'd like to connect to the system. For my purposes, would all of these products be appropriate? Also, would I connect the amp to the Ouverture or the BV 8 (the BV 8 is the "master")?

    Thanks! Leo

Are you looking to the CX-100s to become the Right & Left speakers of your BV8, or as an alternative audio source ?

In other words do you want music to be coming out of the CX-100s independent of the BV 8 ?

(my BL3s are connected to my BV8, and when I play music the BV8 is operational (green light is on) but the screen is off, however the BV8's infrared is receiving all my Beo4's commands and is controlling the volume of the BL3s)

Or are you looking for a link room set-up for relaying the audio from the BV8 or relaying the audio from the Ouverture ?

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Thanks for the response Elephant. I think I understand what you mean. If I want the CX-100's to be independant of the BV 8, I should connect them to the Ouverture. In this case, should I sever the masterlink between the BV 8 and the Ouverture? If I connect the CX-100's to the BV 8, then the speakers could serve as "extras" when watching TV, widening the soundstage. My BV 8-32 doesn't have surround decoding so I can't use the internal speakers as center channel, right?

What about the amplifier - would all three of these do the job?

    Thanks, Leo

    Hi!

Even if you don't have the surround module you will be able to have the "speaker 3" setting in the BV8. Do you have the amp or are you going to buy one?

If you are going to buy one then you can choose any of the amps you mention but I would go for a ML/MCL or a Passive if you want to expand your B&O setup later with a link room.

    Good luck.

    B&Ola:
you will be able to have the "speaker 3" setting in the BV8

I am not sure of this ... because the extra speakers are being attached via the ML ... my experience is that the BV8 only detects the extra speakers when they are plugged in via a Y-cable into the powerlink port ... I am concerned that the extra speakers will operate as if they are already in a link room and there may be a delay causing lip sync problems ... for music from the audio system I don't think this would be a problem but for video ???

My idea was to connect the amp (2P, MCL/ML or a Passive amp) via a full Powerlink to the powerlink socket on the BV8. (without a Y-cable)

My idea was not to connect via ML. The reason that i recommended a MCL/ML or a Passive was just to future safe. =)

I see !!! I love B&O but there are times it frustrates me :-)

I read the three product descriptions yesterday but missed the significance of my underlines:

    MCL 2P (Power Amplifier)

The MCL 2P is a high quality stereo power amplifier designed primarily for use with the MCL 2AV when local source capability and independent volume control of passive loudspeakers was desired. However it can be used with any Bang & Olufsen product which contains Power Link output sockets.

    BeoLink Passive Product Specifications

Beolink Passive For driving passive speakers in Link rooms

    Compatibility:
All A/C masters with Master Link distribution
All A/V masters with Power Link distribution

But it is unclear to me that the ML/MCL converter has a powerlink interface - I know that the text says:

It was effectively the same control box and amplifier as the Beolink Passive kit but without the IR receiver. It provided a power output of 30W per channel and could drive 4 MCL rooms fitted with passive speakers. The design of the amplifier was the same as that seen in the MCL2P device.

but I can't see any references to powerlink support ..............
