Beogram 6006: motor hums, no rotation

    Hello,

My beautiful 6006 (aka 8000) stopped right in the middle of an LP, and the motor suddenly hummed very badly. Now it won't start again, it just hums. Everything else works. All caps are new. Metal tachodisc OK. Any ideas?

Will the platter rotate easily by hand or does it bind ?
Did you replace all capacitors in the kit ?
Else, cracked solder joints and/or a bad transistor.

Thanks for a quick answer.... Supermartin!

Now the deck works again... Not even unplugged the thing. Bad solder then?

The platter rotates easily... and goes on for ages! All caps changed, including the one inside the processor block and the one underneath.

Is the humming sound on startup (and when it brakes to a stop) normal anyway?

    Bad solders...

Yes, it's normal for a Beogram 6006, 8000 and 8002 to hum a bit during acceleration and braking of the platter.
At start, stop and when changing speed from 33 to 45 or back.

Oops, I forgot to answer that one!

Verdict: bad solder, it took a magnifying glass to see it!

The 8000 I repaired had lots of bad solders by the way, but it works on its original caps!
