    Beocenter 7700 Turntable channel out

    Help

I just bought a Beocenter 7700 and I am having trouble with turn table output. When in the tuner mode both left and right channels work fine. When using the turn table the right channel is close to being completely out (max. volume and you can barely hear it it). I notice when the needle first engages the records it plays for about 1 second then it goes out, same thing happens when the needle comes off the record. Also when you get close to the cartridge with your hand you get alot of feedback through this right channel. I carefully inspected the needle/ cartridge visually it looks fine from what I can see.  I tried rotating the cartridge 90 degrees to see if the other channel went out and it did not seem to follow to the left channel. Is there a better test to determine what the problem is? This is my first B&O system and I am stumped

    Thanks

    Hey there,

Nice unit you have there. T

here is a mute switch which mutes the speakers sound when the arm is moving on to the record or coming off... this switch may require cleaning.

if you join the site and download the service manual you can find the switch

    Sounds like a dead cartridge.
Try tapping its pins lightly inwards and fit it again.

    Thanks Andrew

Wouldn't the mute switch effect both channels. On mine it's just the right channel that is not working but again it works for a second when the needle first touches the record then it goes out

    Martin

I tried squeezing in the pins a little and refitting to the arm and it didn't change anything. Another post talked about a muting relay when the tone arm comes on and off the record it sounds like maybe something along those lines because if you take the arm on and off the record manually there is no sound coming out of the right channel In contrast if you use the "PH" or "stop" button to move the arm automatically sound comes out at normal volume for a second then mutes, would that be in this mute circut? Is there two of these relays because it is only effecting the right channel?

Thanks I will take any advise
