    BEO5 and Philips DVDR3460

    Hi there

A post from a totally newbie

I have just bought my BEO5 and I love it

But I have difficulty finding out, if it is possible to use BEO5 with my HDR (Philips DVDR3460). Is it the RC5-codes, I have to use and how do I define DVDR3460 in Beoconfig in "Choose products?

    I have Beovision 7-40 MKIV

Hmm might be stupid questions, but I would really appreciate an advice (or two ;-))

    Regards Mads

    Mads,

A very warm welcome to Beoworld..

Let me start by saying that no question is a stupid question, you just don't currently have the answer.

The first thing to understand is that the Beo5 can control 3rd party products either DIRECTLY (i.e. not involving the Beovision TV) or by the PUC if your 3rd party product is available in the PUC library.

Your Philips DVDR3460 is NOT currently quoted in the PUC library, but as it uses RC5 protocol it is almost certain that other Philips units will work for the most common commands at least.

The PUC is loaded/updated in your Beovision TV with a subset of the library of 3rd party units you are most likely or said you may use and can be changed by your dealer.

B&O's business strategy is to control 3rd party products via the PUC in the Beovision except for non Audio/Video products of business partners such as Lutron. These products are listed under "Other" in the Configuration Tool.

To use your Beo5 directly to control the Philips unit will require an XML file to be created for that product and then you can drag-n-drop it into your configuration using the Beo5 Configuration Tool.

    Hi Keith

Thank you very much for you kind and informative answer.

One more question: To use the PUC solution the Beovision and Philips DVDR have to be connected not only by a SCART but also with a PUC cable is that correct. Philips DVDR3460 doesn't have a PUC connector, I'm afraid.

Then there is only the difficult XML-solution left, is that right?

    You said:-

    My Comment:-

You connect your Philips DVDR via the SCART with a cable in the normal manner. The PUC sends converted Infrared signals to a IR transmitter which is placed over the Philips IR receiver on the front panel of the Philips unit which would have normally received the signal from the original Philips remote control.

In the back of the Beovision there is a small 3.5mm jack socket which the IR transmitter cable plugs into.

Where you wish to operate the Philips box DIRECTLY (not involving any Beovision) then an XML file would need to be made based on the captured infrared codes from the original Philips remote. Once this XML files has been created, then it is a simple matter of drag-n-dropping into the configuration within the Beo5 Configuration Tool.
