BeoSound 5 as audio master: has anybody tried this?

In the user guide, it says BeoSound 5 can act as an audio master, meaning there is no other BeoSound in the setup.

Now I'm wondering, how will it interact with the video master? Other BeoSounds make it possible to select a video source via Beo4 and control functions with the BeoSound's panel/display, but how does it work with BS5? Do you see info such as "DVD 1" or "TV4" on the 10" display, or nothing at all? Do you get control of the CD tracks (played via your DVD player) on the BS5 (= step through tracks, use random function or cue the track), do you get feedback like "load DVD" on the BS5 screen, etc??

I would find it weird if the display showed nothing, since a BeoSound 3000 or 4 can do that, but I'm curious to know how it operates on such a "big" screen with - after all- basic infos coming from the video system.

I get confused with the configuration of "AudioMaster" on the BS5. I think it is a complicating term.

Simply put, the BS5 (head unit - not just the BM5) can act like a BS9000 or a BeoPort.

I use mine as a B&O audiomaster but not an "AudioMaster". There is no other music playing machine involved other than a BV7-40 (which is the Master/VideoMaster). The BV7 display shows N.Music and N.Radio. No track info is displayed (although this forum indicates more detail displays are in progress in terms of software updates). The BS5 displays nothing of the videomaster info.

I am not sure what a BV7 and a BS9000 combined with a BS5 would display. however, I would bet it still shows N.Music/N.Radio.

I did until recently have a DVI cable from my BM5 to BV7. However, in "PC" mode but WITH a BS5, this did not work well. Without the BS5, I'm guessing it will be the same as a BM1.

Hi & thanks for your message,

So it seems that BeoSound 5 only displays TV or DVD, or not even that?! Are you in option 0 for BeoSound, or option 2? In option 2 in a different room than the video master, it should be able to display the video source, don't you think?

The BeoSound 5 only has Options 0 & 1, though it "looks" like something different since you select in in a menu (unlike the other products which get option programmed from a remote). Audio Master: Yes = Option 1, No = Option 0

Whenever another product or products are involved, it is placed in Option 0 and acts as a client. Nothing is displayed on the screen relating to any of the other audio or video master's activity. When you think about it, this makes sense. I have the BeoSound 5 on my coffee table and to have a 10" LCD light up in a dark room to say "DVD" when I'm clearly watching it on the 50" BeoVision 4 in front of me would irritate the hell out of me!

As 10% said about the BV7 displaying N.MUSIC or N.RADIO, so does the attached BeoSound 9000 (or other BeoSound audio system).

Not quite correct. BS5 has A.OPT 0, 1 and 2. You can choose : Audio Master YES - NO. When no audiomaster is selected the options are greyed out.

See also: Beomaster 5 service manual, page 15.

A.OPT 5 - 6 for linkroom use will be added in an update.

My BS5 is no audiomaster, so I can`t say, what it does in option 1 or 2, sorry. But I think it will act as any other audiomaster...(?)
