Hi All,
I've just purchased a Beo5 but unfortunately my dealer tells me there is a big back log on charger orders and I will have to wait nearly a month for the charger.
My question is, is there a way charge it without the charger? Perhaps via USB?
Thanks

Thanks for confirming this Keith.
To clarify, does it take a standard male mini USB into the bottom of the Beo5? I'm hoping this is the case as I can then use my camera cable.
Cheers

I don't think you can. A friend of mine bought a Beo5 charger on eBay for about 11 pounds.
I am nobody to say Keith is wrong, but I left my Beo5 charging on my PC via USB and it lost all the battery.

Beo5 itself does not have a USB plug in the bottom part. It has a special designed cone that fits together with a Beo5 docking station. The docking station then has the mini USB plug...
Regarding charging via USB it must be noticed, that the charge current is quite small. As I recall it charges with about 80 milliamps effectively (due to its own consumption) when the display is off. This means that it will take about 16-18 hours to fully charge the Beo5 that way.

Thanks for the info Burnix.
Just to clarify, does this cone come with the Beo5 or with the Beo5 charger? My dealer has the Beo5 for me but not the charger part as yet.

Quim,
You can charge via the USB PROVIDED the USB hub has its own power supply. If the HUB does not have a power supply, then it will more than likely discharge the Beo5 battery.
I agree with Burnix points and it will take a long time to charge using the USB method.

Unfortunately for you the docking station comes with the charger. I also agree with Keith that charging using USB of course requires a powered USB..

I understand it now. I left my Beo5 connected to the PC USB, not on a USB hub.
