Urgent Marriage Guidence needed re: remote Vacuum cleaner and Beo5
Hi All,
My lovely wife has put her foot down and says I must do more around the house. She is quite right, but I would rather control a remote vacuum cleaner with my Beo5 so I save my energies for playing with my lovely B&O system!!
Has anyone had succes with remote codes for the irobot etc...........
Thanks must get back to the housework!

Jandyt:
I believe one of our Spanish members, Quim, has had some success with this.
Hello,
not yet, but I'm still on it. No doubt, if I can do it, I will upload the xml file

Ha ha, I'm looking forward to this, Quim. My wife also red this treat and asks when it will be ready. She specialy likes a robotic ironing device.

Re: Urgent Marriage Guidence needed re: remote Vacuum cleaner and Beo5
Gentlemen,
I have done a little research to find out what protocol these cleaners use and it looks as if it is not one of the standard protocols.
I have been able to establish the following facts:-
- It uses a Carrier Frequency of 38 Khz
- Each byte of data is 8 bits long
- The period of a single bit is 4ms
- The protocol uses whats called "Manchester coding" or "Bi-Phase Coding" which means it is self clocking because a "0" is defined as a change from signal high to low and a "1" is a signal change from low to high.
If someone would like to send me a remote to test we can establish the exact spec.

You could consider a Tortoise with brushes glued to its underside or alternatively employing a cleaner for 1/2 hour per day (this has additional benefit of while making a cup of tea for his/herself at halftime, they can bring you one too, saving you getting up to make tea as well as vacuuming)
Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Re: Urgent Marriage Guidence needed re: remote Vacuum cleaner and Beo5
Hey guys!!
Finally I created an xml file with 3 commands for the Roomba 560 (Clean, Spot and Dock). I know it doesn't work perfectly, because I have not the original remote, but anyway, my Roomba did respond to my Beo5
If you wanna test the file, I sent it to Keith, so I think he will put the file in his server to download.
I am a little more happy today.
Regards

Thank you all so much for your help (especially the tortoise suggestion! My lovely wife did like that as she thinks it bears a resemblance to me.)
A remote hoover has arrived and after testing I will divulge the results and also expose the contents of my hoover bag..................................

Re: Urgent Marriage Guidence needed re: remote Vacuum cleaner and Beo5
I have had a first look at the XML file which Quim has sent me and I will make the following initial observations.
On first review it appears close to Philips RC5 protocol, but its not, well not as found in the XML file. The start pulse timing is way off and there is not enough bits for a RC5
Also the "Dock" and "Spot" commands seem to be in a realistic form, but the "Clean" command seems to have a problem.

Re: Urgent Marriage Guidence needed re: remote Vacuum cleaner and Beo5
It's a one-off protocol I have never seen anywhere else, quite simple though with only 256 possible commands. The basic transmission format is described here:
http://irobotcreate.googlepages.com/createanirbeacon
...and the problem is to know which code means which command. We have a non-working (dead battery) Roomba at work - if I find the remote, I'll try and capture those commands. I can't remember the model, but I think the remote had 6 or 7 separate functions.
