    Protecting foam surrounds

    Hi everyone,

I recently heard from a friend that foam woofer surrounds can be preserved by applying a product such ArmorAll vinyl protectant or vegetable oil on them. Is there truth to this?

    Regards,

    Aaron

I have seen this done but it alters the way the material behaves so can be seen as an economy solution. Far better replace the material properly.

    Okay,

Just curious... I picked up a pair of Penta IIs in great shape with the original sorrounds which are still not tacky and was hoping to prolong the inevitable foam rot. At what point do you start to think about replacing the foam? When it starts to get tacky, or when holes begin to develop? Hopefully I'll have several years of enjoyment before it gets to this point.

    Regards,

    Aaron
