    BV4, BS3 plus Playstation 3

    Hi,

I have just purchased a PS3 to act as my HD DVD player, setting it up as VAUX and connecting to the BS3 by HDMI, everything works fine, but the rear speakers don't automatically kick in when playing a DVD, any ideas please ?

Can you manually adjust the speakers to 5? Just wanted to check to see if the system can output to five during a film that has either DTS or Dolby.

As well as the picture settings for HDMI there is also a sound setting to set to HDMI as well.  There are also several other settings on the PS3 that need to be adjusted as far as i remember however i am not with mine  at present but i will endeavor to info you when i get back to my house.

I forgot to mention that during the installation of my present BV 7 40 the installation guy said that it is always best to leave the PS3 on and turn the power off completely for the B & O kit for at least 40 secs and then turn on the B & O.  This aides the BS3 recognition of external connected equipment.

    Hello,

I assume your rear speakers function normally otherwise?

Can you switch the rear speakers on manually with the Speaker 5 command?

While playing a DVD, bring up the Menu and look under Options->Sound->Sound System if the BS3 is using a surround mode like Dolby Digital or DTS.

    Hi,

Thank you for the input so far. I can include all 5 speakers manually, all 5 speakers also come in automatically when viewing HD TV and also playing standard def DVD's on my BeoCentre 2.

You need to change the output formats from the PS3, to just include Dolby Digital 5.1 options, i have disabled all the 6.1/7.1 PCM options, and just selected the 2.0 and all the DTS/DD in 5.1 mode.

I had the same problem, and this solved it for me, you need to selet "manual" under sound options in the PS3 after selecting HDMI.

    Hi Weebyx,

I have taken action as you suggest, so under "Sound Settings", I have HDMI and the following Dloby Digital 5.1 ch, DTS 51. ch and there are two Linear PCM 2ch.44.1 khz and Linera PCM 2ch.48 khz entries that I cannot remove. On the BD/DVD Audio Output format I have HDMI and Linear PCM.

The rear speakers still arn't coming in automatically - any further suggestions ?

    Regards

    Keith

Could you take a picture of the screen in the BeoSystem 3 Connections menu for that particular input? Also, a picture of the Sound System menu when on the input with a movie etc... playing in the PS3.

There may be something obvious we're missing...

    Hi Alex,

I don't have a photograph available, but my connections are as follows.

BS 3 HDMI into slot B, I have set this up as AV3 V-Aux, auto-selection NO, Sound Input HDMI, YPbPr NO. On the PS 3, under sound settings I have HDMI selected, Dolby Digital 5.1ch, DTS 5.1 ch, Linear PCM 2ch.44.1 Khz and Linera PCM 2ch 48 khz (I was unable to de-selcted the last two Linera options from the PS 3 options). On the PS 3 BD/DVD Audio menu, I have output format HDMI and Linera PCM.

I can manually select all five speakers, just not sure whether this is providing me with the best sound possible.

    Regards

    Keith

Thank you Weebyx - With those settings do your rear speakers cut in automatically when you play a Blue Ray disc on your PS 3 ?

    Weebyx,

Do you have your default setting for the number of speakers to use for video in your B&O system set to 3 or 5 ?
