I just purchased a Beomaster 8000, Beocord 9000, and a Beogram 8002.  The 8002 tonearm will not automatically lower when starting.  It will start, stop, back and forward, but will not lower to play.  Please help.   Thank you.

OK, I can force the tonearm down, but a light touch.  Maybe it will loosend up and work, but I have another question.  What is the purpose of the "turn" button?  It appears to do nothing.

The turn button will start the platter rotation but do nothing more. It's practical for cleaning records.

Check the tracking force adjustment, set it according to the user manual and the type of cartridge.

Pressing turn starts the turntable rotating but does not permit the arm to move to the start position.  It is used to clean a disc prior to playing.  If the turntable does not rotate when turn is pressed then something is wrong.

Assuming that the arm does move to the start position when you press Start, if the arm is not dropping then you need to check the solenoid action.  The solenoid might be stuck after a long time with no operation.  The solenoid on my unit was partly stuck and had to be lubricated to get it to work freely again.  In my case, the arm now drops too quickly and there seems to be a delicate balance between a damped fall and a totally free fall operation.  I raised the question on this forum but no-one was able to advise me of the correct procedure for setting up the solenoid.

Now my 8002 will not go down even pushing it a bit.  How do I check/unstick the solenoid?

Please tell me what to look for.  I am not a technician, by any means.  Thanks for all of your help.

These are not easy machines to service and nothing related to the arm lowering mech. is easily accessed.
I suggest you leave servicing to someone who has been there before.
