Microswitch for MCP5500 volume - also from Beogram of 80s

I am after a microswitch for the MCP 5500 (or 6500) volume control.  I am told that it is also available in any (broken) beogram record deck fron the 1980's (the 1800, rx, 2000, 5000 series) as there will be a couple of these switches lurking around under the platter. Same goes for the Beocenter 2200.

Thanks for any help on this one!

    Brian

I think you are right though the little leaf spring is not used in the MCP.

I'm a bit curious, is the switch missing or what happened ? Normally, the opto part is the faulty one (I have new ones in stock).

Re: Microswitch for MCP5500 volume - also from Beogram of 80s

This all started  with a faulty MCP5500 and a search through the archives.  I then sent an eamil to Chris.......

I caught the year old thread via a search regarding non functioning MCP 5500 volume control.  Do you have any more microswitches available.

He could not find one and sent the following.....

no joy I'm afaraid, I've looked in all the places where I would expect to have one but to no availSad

It isn't the end of the world though, if someone on Beoworld has a broken beogram record deck fron the 1980's (the 1800, rx, 2000, 5000 sreies) then there will be a couple of these switches lurking around under the platter. Same goes for the Beocenter 2200. Worth asking on the forum.

If one does turn up at my place I'll let you know though.

Oh - and yes - this is usually the problem with the volume control on these, have you tried lightly cleaning the contacts on yours with some fine sandpaper?

The volume control is not working on a mint condition MCP5500.  I can get my money back form the vendor, but it is so good that it has to be worth repairing. I have a manual for the MCP5000 - but that does not have the volume ring of course!  I do not know what to clean or repair - that is why I searched the archives!

The MCP 5000 is completely different from the 5500 (and won't work with anything but a Beomaster 5000).

Generally, if the MCP lights up when you rotate the wheel, the contact is fine and the opto is dead but the contacts are easily checked with an ohm-meter (MCP batteries removed) and also easily cleaned as Chris suggests. If the contacts are OK, the opto component is probably bad. Light output degrades with age, I've replaced a handful or so by now.

    Martin,

    Thank you for the reply.

Nothing happens at all when the wheel is turned )ie no volume, bass, treble or balance).  The rest of the MCP works fine to change sources, radio stations  etc
