Hi everyone 

I have just fixed a problem with the arm which was sticking and battling to lower properly.  I cleaned the area around the solenoid thoroughly and the arm no longer sticks.  The problem now is the arm drops far too fast for comfort and cannot be doing the stylus any good at all.  I can only assume that by cleaning the unit so well, it is no longer acting as an effective damper.  Can anybody explain how the damper system works for these units and how to set it up properly for a smooth, controlled lowering operation.

I had the same problem with my BG4002. Picture shows what it looks like, I hope the 8002 is similar - my apologies if it isn't. I found advice saying that you should add some sewing machine oil inside the pneumatic air damper (to the right of the yellow solenoid), around the perimeter of the moving piston. Accessible from the back. Worked very nicely! Now lowers gently, takes about 1 sec.

Thanks for the reply but from the picture that you provided, I'm not sure if the two units, 4002 and 8002 are that similar.  However, I think that you are on the right track, some oil or grease has to go in somewhere but I'm not sure what to use and where best to put it.  Since the solenoid is still on the sliding chassis, it is very difficult to see what is inside - perhaps I will have to dismantle the whole thing to get a better look and then it might be easier to determine what is the best solution.
