Tone arm weight adjustment spring setup?

    Hi,

My efforts with a Beogram 4002 TT continue. There is trouble with the adjustment to the weight of the tone arm. The adjustment is controlled by the graduated (from 0g to 1.5g) wheel on the side of the tone arm. When the wheel is turned a spring tightens, or loosens, on an “arm” (#236 on page 9-11 of the manual) that runs perpendicular to the tone arm. I need to reset the tone arm on the arm and properly set the weight force adjustment spring. When the tone arm is properly on the arm there should be a 2.2mm gap (as seen on the top figure page 4.4). Does the spring wedge into the 2.2mm gap? Or, does it run under the tone arm across the arm?

I hope this makes sense, but I am not sure that it does. Here is another go at the same point.

The weight force adjustment on the tone arm that is controlled by the adjustment bushing (#236 on page 9-11 of the manual) does not seem to make any difference. There is a spring that runs along the arm (193 page 9-11). The tension of this spring sets the fine tuning of the weight of the stylus. Well, the tone arm is off the arm (193 page 9-11), because the height adjustment screw came out of the clip. I will put the clip back in and put the screw (screw “A” in the top figure on page 4-4) into the clip. Once I do this I can address the real issue.

    1.       I need to reset the tone arm on the arm

    2.       I need to reset the tension spring for the weight of the tone arm.

The manual helps with all but catastrophic cases and it is invaluable for making the adjustments to the engineering marvel that is the 4002. One thing that I do not see specified is the way that the tone arm sits on the arm and functions with the tone arm weight adjustment spring. Does the tone arm sit on the spring, or does the spring need to be recoiled so the tone arm sits squarely on the much referenced arm?

I thank you sincerely for reading this post. As a novice at all this I have tried to make my question clear.

    Thanks again,

    Kirk
