Beocom 6000 can't connect to base

Recently purchased a second hand Beocom 6000 system, consisting of a main base with a handheld and a second base with handheld. The second handheld works fine, but the main handheld asks to register it with base. When I press OK, it says "out of range"  and then "search base, wait" and it never finds the base. Also there is a blinking red light in the handheld. Since the second handheld works fine, I assume the base is ok and the problem is in the main handheld.

     Any help is appreciated.

Reboot the handset having the problem by removing and then reinstalling the battery. This usually solves the problem very nicely.
