Question about remotes from new member!

    Hello everybody.

I have always wanted a B & O system, but never been able to afford it.  Well today I've placed my order for a new Beosound 4 and Beolab 6000 speakers, I can't wait until delivery.

I was offered the Beo4 remote control at an eye watering £165!!!

I was just wondering whether a universal remote will work (if so which one) or if I buy an older one off ebay will it work?

Your responses would be much appreciated!!!

No. The one you want is a Beolink 1000 which you can get for about £30 on eBay. Lee has one for sale in excellent condition for £85. B&O remotes use a much higher frequency than most universal remotes and very few will work. They are also nasty plastic affairs! You can use a B&O remote as a club and it will still look good! Laughing

    Welcome to Beoworld!

    many thanks Peter!

is the beolink better than the Beo4 the dealer tried to sell me?

Even though i'm very fond of the Beolink 1000, and i use several on a daily bases,

my ideal remote for a new BeoSound 4 would be a Beo 4.

They should be easy to find second-hand and they are very robust,

and you can use it with pretty much any B&O product.

The Beo4 is the best remote to use but is quite a bit more expensive hence my recommendation. The Beolink 1000 will work the CD and the radio and would be a good stop gap. Ignace is quite right that the Beo4 would be the best remote though. I would have tried bargaining the dealer down on price - they are quite desperate at present and eager for sales. May be a little late though! Sad

    Welcome to the forum!!!

I hope that you will enjoy your B&O as much as we enjoy ours Smile

Please don't go for another remote, Beo4 is the best remote on the world I think, and also you can use Beo4 like a cold weapon Smile

Try to find on the pre owned market... lifestyle-av, iconic-av or morethanav....

My firs Beo4 was used one and I payed 100 euro .... so it is not much and don't worry remote is practically indestructible...

Or if you buy some TV from Lee you will get one for free I hope Wink

    Good luck...

I couldn't agree more - don't buy a cheap plastic after market affair as you will be ultimately dissappointed. My personal favourite is the beolink 1000 as they are virtually indestructable and very user friendly for idiots like me - also great if you lose your hammer and have a nail you need to bang into a piece of wood, but the best for your system is the Beo4 which can be bought on ebay for far less than dealer prices. Both are brilliant remotes and pretty much future proof as far as B&O products are concerned!

I'm surprised your dealer didn't throw a Beo4 in for free in the current fiscal climate, I'm sure he would have done if pushed.

My new BS4 came with a Beo4 remote in the same box - there's even a slot for it in the styrofoam packing.  In addition the user manual makes no mention of it being optional equipment.   Do we Americans get freebies in addition to low (relatively) prices?

You do very well. In fact the Beo4 is becoming an option even with TVs though to be fair this is because the Beo5 is also available. Didn't  notice much of a price drop though in some cases!

I got my Beo4 (decent condition, just some wear in the buttons) for 60 euros, and it came complete with an MX6000 and motor stand! Laughing

(of course, I had to fix the tv - I think the best remote bargains come with broken tv sets.)

I would imagine a Beosound 4 to be a bit awkward to use with an older remote without A.MEM and whatever, but then again I've never even seen one myself... edit: I just noticed that these functions are just renamed, so no problem there. I'd get a cheap Beolink 1000 to start with and then take the time to find a good second hand Beo4 deal!

If I had a BeoSound 4, I would personally use the hands-on controls much more than the remote - it's absolutely fantastic to touch and use. Excellently designed, built and finished IMO.

They come free with the Beosound 4 in Australia too.... I'd go back and query this with the dealer, he may give you a better deal. Otherwise ebay is your best bet IMO, and I'd go the Beo4 because you will always be able to use it with future purchases Yes - thumbs up
