    Re: DVD2

I am considering buying a DVD2 when it becomes available. Having looked at the DVD2 manual, there are the following questions still open for me:

    1) Is that possible to record from a video camera directly to DVD (the manual says only about recording to HDD)?

    2) Is that possible to connect DVD2 via HDMI to the DVI input of a Beovision using a HDMI-DVI cable? I mean will it effectively work.

If anybody has any idea on that, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: DVD2

When is the expected arrival of the DVD2? add 3 months to it and then we might be somewhere close.

Not sure but there are plenty of reasons to use the HDD first as you can then edit out all the problems. However you certainly can record directly to DVD on the Philips machine I think it is based upon!

An HDMI to DVI connector should also work - the B&O sets are supposed to be HDCP compliant.

    Peter, thank you!

Is Philips 7300, which apparently serves as basis for DVD2, a premium range DVD recorder of Philips? I can't find this model on the Philips website, maybe it has been decommissioned already.

Google search on DVDR7300H and it comes up. I found the full instruction manual for it - sorry but can't remember where!

Right, the G-Code socket is ignored on the B&O version as the idea there is to have the Video Master do all the Set Top Box controlling itself.

You often find that technically a B&O product may work in country, but B&O does not market it in that country for reasons only B&O marketing department have the answers too.

Also many products are launched in countries in rotation often over a period of greater than a year.

A good recent example is the EarSat 2 which was available and advertised on Swiss Air duty free and B&O in the US last October 2006, yet was not available in the UK until April 2007

The manuals in the DVD2 and HDR2 don't mention anything about NON B&O tv's. My Philips dvd recorder's connections at the back are just like the Philips DVDR7300h, so i had a brain wave! Can i get an HDR2 or DVD2 and connect it to my TV with one of these 21 pin scart - RCA cables like i use with my philips??

The problem will be remote control. I imagine that the HDR2 relies on the Beovision for its IR eye. I don't know about the DVD2 but would not be surprised if it too needed a Beovision. Why not simply get the the Philips 7300H if you plan to do this? It will be cheaper and will have its own remote. Or better still, buy one with a digital tuner built in.

The DVD2 does not have an IR eye and rely on the Beovision signals being sent on AVL.

Does it mean that if DVD2 is connected to a Beovision not via Scart but via a HDMI-DVI or Y-Pb-Pr cable, then it can no longer receive IR signals through Beovision and hence no longer be controlled with Beo4?

Ah just a thought! Darn, the philips 7300 doesn't have a built in tuner, and it is an absolute behemoth, what an ugly machine lol. The unfortunate thing is that Philips australia doesn't yet provide a DVD recorder with a built in HDD and tuner like one of these, hopefully soon, one will be released here!

(DVDR7310H/97) I reckon this is the one B&O are using, it's the latest, and not avail in many countries,

i found this one from south africa site: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/dvdr7310h_97/dvdr7310h_97_dfu_eng.pdf

    Re: DVD2

David, the Philips 7300/7310 has an analogue tuner, but not a digital one (you'll need the 9000 for that). I saw half a dozen 7300 on sale in Myer Melbourne last weekend (floor stock) at $499 each---a bargain if there are any left. Me, I've placed a deposit on a DVD2 ... late August with a bit of luck?

    Re: DVD2

I'll also be getting a philips HD set top box 7200 to hide away, i don't see the point in buying a B&O device such as the DVD2 or HDR2 anymore!

    Re: DVD2

The 7310 is a development of the 7300 - it appears to have Video plus - a feature not on the DVD2. It also explains how G Plus allows you to control the digital receiver - again not active on the DVD2. I do think that the DVD2 is a stop gap model while B&O are waiting for the HD war to sort itself out and so they can offer a DVD recorder in the meantime. Why develop an expensive model of your own when it will be obsolete in 2 years? For Philips and Sony, this is the lifespan of a product. B&O expect 10 years.

DVD2 has Videoplus (but not G Plus as it is done by the PUC of the TV.)

Quite right - my mistake. The problem with the PUC of the TV is that it would appear you cannot control a satellite or DVB-T using the timer. You can with the HDR2.

    Re: DVD2

I have seen you saying the timer could not control the PUC a few times on the forum, but that is not what I experience with my BV7. The timer (of the BV or of the HDR1) controls the PUC fine. I am using the PUC of the TV, not the one of the HDR1.

The HDR1 and 2 work it fine. The DVD2 does not. It is one of the highlighted differences between the HDR2 and DVD2. It is all to do with the integration of the two products. I would consider the HDR2 certainly - I regard this as a B&O product. The DVD2 is a Philips product with a B&O box and basic interface. That is why it is comparatively cheap.

I'm still not clear about what you are saying: is it, or is it not, possible to control a DVD2 by a BV7? And is the DVD2 able to (timer-)record TV-programs from an external nonB&O-digital tuner (like the panasonic I have)?
