    Beovision MX5000 problems, please help!

    Hello,

Im having odd problems with this old TV but I dont want to throw it out.  I replaced all the bad caps a couple years ago using Jean's repair guide but it started acting up again shortly after.  The problem is the tuner appears to be dead, none of the RF inputs work.  If I use a external tuner through the RCA inputs, I have a picture but no sound (just static).  If I press 'Shift+VTAPE' the sound switches to the channel.  Whats weird is if I press 'TV' it switches back to the static, but if I change channels, the sound will be from an over-the-air channel.  The picture always stays the same. There are also black bars running horizontally when the overall picture is very bright.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hi,

can't help you with this but you might want to repost the question in the general forum. It should get more attention there and MX5000 was slightly different sold in europe as well.

    Good luck

Sorry for the long delay for answering . By reading the description of your problems, I am afraid that you will have to go through the repair process again. First, ensure that you have replaced all bad capacitors on the A/V switching board. Then inspect visually on the component side damaged traces and pads due to leaked electrolyte (lifted or corroded traces and solder pads). Then check the continuity of the signal path of all non functioning inputs (dead tuner, dead audio on some inputs, etc  make a list of them before dismantling the TV) by using the schematic and a multimeter. Dead traces will have to be restored by soldering jumper wires on the soldering side of the board. This may be very time consuming but it is doable.

For the tuner, you will have to remove the tuner board and replace all the black Rubycon capacitors and to clean the board to remove the leaked electrolyte. This is a one sided board, so no need for continuity tests.

     Good luck,

    Jean
