Beo5 refuse to get new config...
I am trying to update my Beo5 with a new config, and strangely, it refuses to update. The software sees the remote, I am able to click on Download, It serialises and does not seem to display any error message, but the remote remains in the configuration?!? p.

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
So, are you saying that the Configuration Tool effectively hangs and you have to terminate the program with Windows Task Manager ? If you have increased the size of the overall configuration, then it may that you are working with a PC with a small amount of memory or many other programmes running at the same time as the Configuration program. I suggest you try again with no other programs running on your PC including un-needed background programs. If your PC is fairly modern with more than 1GB of RAM, then this is unlikely to be the problem. How big is the configuration file ?

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
The config software does not hang, it seems to behave normally: when I press the Download button, it display the progress/serialisation window, which goes until the end, then the windows closes normally without displaying a specific error warning. When I pick up the remote, it still has the old configuration! I will try again tonight, by booting under bootcamp, rather than using VMWare. But it has worked before. I have just added plenty of icons! p.

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
Actually... went home at lunch time and tryed again. I have tried with a smaller configuration and after the serialisation, a download window appeared. With my config, I get the serialisation window, but it closes and does not continue to the Download window. Maybe that is too much. I have 5 icons for the TV, about 50 for the DTV and about 50 for the V.AUX (Sky). Icons are from your templates (thanks by the way).

More than 100 icons is probably too much. What's the size of your configuration.xml (check program folder / clients/ serial/ ...)?

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
If your serialisation file is to big to fit into the Beo5 memory, then the Configuration tool will give an error message and will not do a download. The maximum size of the serialisation file is just under 2mb, that's NOT the configuration file you create, rather the hex file which is actaully downloaded to the Beo5. My Beo5 configuration has a total of 119 icons across 5 zones (rooms) and is very near the 2mb limit, so you will be very near the limit as well. I have done a few tests with downloading various configurations near to the memory limit and the most common problem at this level is the program hangs during the serialisation section and has to be terminated with Windows Task manager. As most users of the configuration tool will be no where near the limit I am guessing that few have observed the issue. Have you tried running on Windows XP as based on your previous posting I am guessing you are not ?

After your initial posting and subsequent updates I started to do a few tests and I can confirm that I can reproduce your symptoms and it appears to be linked to getting USB errors. Disconnecting the Beo5 and re-connecting it and doing an immediate download again causes normal operation to return each time. I have not yet been able to establish the exact steps which gets the program into this situation, but it is certainly in the routine which sets up the USB ready for the transfer prior to the actual download.

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
You were right Keith, I connected the Beo5 directly on the back of the computer, rather than on a USB hub and it did the trick. Thanks. p.

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
I think my problem is the same, I connect the beo 5, create a configuration and download the configuration to the beo5. The downlaod works without problems, it makes the serialize without problems, and send the configuration, after sendig he say "configuration send" but the BEO5 haven't the new configuration. Config Tool is Ver. 1.30 FW is 1.30a

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
As I wrote in another thread (sorry, I didn't see this one early enough)
http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/165313.aspx I still have the same problem. I did what Keith said but it does not work. Any hints?
My Beo 5: Firmware 1.34a, Configtool 1.30.
I dis- and reconnected the Beo 5 from a main USB-port (not a hub), choosed another port, restartet the Beo 5, the computer but it does NOT work. Now I'm starting to get a little frustrated
Is there an exact timepoint when I have to dis- and reconnect the Beo 5? The Software recognizes that I pulled the plug ...
What to do? Perhaps a complete new configuration?
The xml-file is ca. 1.7 MB.

Re: Beo5 refuse to get new config...
Whilst I do not know what other USB applications that are running on your PC, the problem you have is certainly linked to USB errors. With this in mind, I suggest as a first step you do the following:- - Disconnect the Beo5 from the PC and make sure it is fully charged.
- Go into Windows "Device Manager" by click START then CONTROL PANEL and after the new window opens double click SYSTEM
- Click the HARDWARE tab at the top of the window, then click DEVICE MANAGER
- Click the + sign to the left of UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS
- Located the Beo5 and right click on it and left mouse click UNINSTALL
Now reboot your PC and then connect the Beo5 to the USB and it will go through and reload the driver. Then test your configuration again.
