    Feeling rather pleased with myself!

My back up disc - an Iomega 1Tb enclosure failed at the weekend - the click of death was heard! I have just fitted a couple of Samsung SATA II 1Tb discs inside my PowerMac G5 in a Sonnet Jive enclosure and set them as a RAID 1 back up - and it all works!! Hardly any down time - these PowerMacs really are a joy to work on. The Iomega has two Seagate Barracuda 500Gb drives in it - all I need to do is work out which one is bust and replace it!

Aren't you pleased you have "redundancy" when you're jetting off to your summer hols??? You'll never know how much stuff fails while you're up in the air and the back-up takes overUnsure

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

I'm gonna need to set up a RAID array soon. I've just bought myself a nice shiny new iMac, and I want to back it up along with my 750 gb Firewire drive holding my iTunes library...

I decided to go the E-SATA route initially but the Powermac can actually do this internally - I now have the original drive, a 500Gb second drive and the two 1Tb RAID drives all inside the box. I also have a 750Gb external drive so should have enough space for the moment. I do have one more space  inside though!!

RAID is the way to go on any Mac or PC.

Drobo is more the way to go! RAID is good but it has some pretty serious drawbacks. DROBO is much easier than conventional RAID arrays, it's relatively cheap and it works very well...
