wtlc2zpx: I am not aware that Apple has licensed Apple Lossless yet... so it probably has no price.
Which pretty much ends this leaf of the discussion - there's apparently no way Beosound 5 possibly could support it, so there's not much point in keeping that on the wish (or demand) list.
Anyway, I'd rather see something really open (like FLAC).

Regardless of format, the industry - B&O included - are very familiar to paying for licenses for audio and video codecs. Take the Beosystem 3 for example. B&O will likely have had to pay numerous third-parties software licenses that make the capability accessible and free to the user - like AAC for example. H.264 and AAC are great examples of this; numerous players now support this because the manufacturers pay a license and builds it into the cost of the product. The key thing to really worry about with the BS5 is the lack of integration as a result of no access to the Fairplay rights management technology and not the audio codec. This obviously isn't a problem with iTunes Plus content. Best, Mark.

Brian:
Look, It's REALLY simple everyone..... *drool* That is all. I think B&o know what they're doing, ease up on the skepticism and nit picking it's getting really irritating for those of us who are loyal to the brand and it's astronomical achievements thus far. For heavens sake!
This is NOT a BeoSound 6 - they have learned from their mistakes from that venture. Now lets just sit back and relax, stop stressing. The core goal B&o set out to achieve when they design their products is that the products give many a positive experience.

Dave, I think you need to define 'loyalty'. I have more modern B&O equipment than most, but I'm no B&O lemming. I don't drool or talk positively about all things B&O. They do some really good stuff (think recent speakers), but some not so good stuff (think MP3 players). For instance, this £3500 Beosound 5 is looking expensive. The design is so-so (some love it, some do not). However, I'm sure we'll all be keen to see it at our local dealer and make a final judgement when we see these forthcoming demo units.

tournedos: soundproof: Tournedos - I do not understand how Apple makes money from their lossless format? iTunes is free, the conversion program included is free.
Yes, it's free for the end user, but is it free for someone (say B&O) who might want to integrate the support into their products? That's what I was talking about. But I seriously don't know - if it really is, then all the better.
Yes, it is free from the end-users' point of view. I'm not sure if it would be free for B&O to integrate into the BeoSound 5 - I doubt it is.

Technically it can be done, Art Lebedev has a keyboard like that. It would also make more sense then having the entire tablet as a 2 way remote - which probably sucks up too much energy giving its screen size. Since Tomaz posted some insights before in the german forum, maybe this is it. If it can replace my Beo 4 as well I am and the stock market starts tanking I might sign up for one. JK

There are other, arguably better, lossless codecs than Apple. I'm not sure I'm ready to put all of my lossless eggs into apple's basket when I finally get ready to re-encode my music.

B&O would not come up with the Beo5, only to come up with this remote a year after. Let's stop dreaming. Very nice work by the way! P.

Jandyt: Nice work Tomaz! Used the wrong way round, this remote would be handy for knocking nails in......or as a toffee hammer.
