    Strange BM6000 (80s) fault

I currently have my Beomaster 6000 connected to a pair of Beolab Penta MK2 speakers via the speakerlink ports. This is all well and good but I have to physically turn them off at the wall after listening or else the amps are permantly on (green light) due to the amplifier not having the speakerlink switching pin. Because of this I decided to bypass the amps completely and connect the speaker cables to the binding posts on the underside of the speaker enclosures above the amps.

When testing, every time I took the volume above 30 the beomaster tripped out for some unknown reason and it would seem that the left hand speaker channel is causing the fault because if you move the balance over to the right the fault doesnt occur. This also happened with a pair of S45-2s I was using before the pentas but I thought it was down to a faulty connection on the lh speaker cable at the time. Obviously it would appear that the amp probably is at fault.

    Any thoughts/advice on this?

    Cheers,

    Llewelyn

PS Does anyone know of an online cap replacement guide for my 6000? I would quite like to service it at some point soon!

It sounds like bad caps to me. I have a palisander BM6000 that when reached 38 something it would go to standby. It was unused for a few months and strangely the last few weeks its been behaving like it should at high volume but I have not connected any speakers to it. I'm planning on a service anyway.

Dillen's kit comes with clear instructions so send him a pm before he sends you one.

So you connected the BM6000 directly to the Pentas like a passiv Beovox Penta? But the amp of the Penta is still connected?

Then it's clear... the Penta amp makes a short.

The fault occurs when the amp is connected directly to the Pentas (like beovox pentas!), when it is connected to the penta amplifiers it doesnt occur! :-)
