I have now checked this deck out and all functions work, I have cleaned, lubricated the dropping mechanism cylinder and cleaned the running rails which were squeaky. Everything works except, the record gets stuck, (I have tried several) i.e the arms are not moving across the record with the pickup dropped. It will travel to the end and back with no record and arm raised so it is not obstructed.

 How does the deck know how much and when to advance? Surely not pressure on the stylus?? The tonearm is very easily to move up and down but quite tight side to side Where do I look? I have the service manual

Hi

There is a photo detector diaphragm below the tonearm that tells the deck to advance. Probably your detector will need an adjustment or the detector circuit is faulty.

Hi The lamp is blown, the manual is not very helpful describing 'housing with lamp' what is the voltage rating of the lamp? will one from the speed indicators do the  job?

I swapped the lamp for a 3mm red LED and resistor. Works great, and now no more lamp to fail.
