Huh? [:^)] Please bring back the 5000/5500/6500/7000 system forum

I really liked the 5000/5500/6500/7000 forum and find it sad that threads about those systems drown out in the general forum. Pleeeeeeease.

I had thought the Vintage Forum was to include these models though the 25 year tag would seem to suggest otherwise.

I thought about that before posting but in my little world vintage B&O has wooden panels ;)

I asked this same question when this revamped site was first set up and was told that vintage would cover it.  I would definately support the reintroduction of this forum - and a few others.

There are times when the general forum rather strays into general chat - nothing wrong with that but not why I tune in!

Vintage forum is for the teak and rosewood era to my mind ( I have owned  many of those items but am taken by CDs, remote controls and interlinking!)

Well, we could slip into the old site values here where we could end up with a plethora of forums.  We had a scale-down to clean things up, and it was decided that this forum was to be amalgamated into Vintage.

I can change the name of the Vintage Forum to 'Classic Forum', or '1980's and before' - or just change the text to "all items over 20 years old"

    Your shout!

I also think that "Vintage" or even "Classic" means rosewood and teak. Where else would you draw the line?

The Beocenter 9000 was introduced in 1986, the same year that Beosystem 5000 ended.

In my view everything from the Beosystem 5000 and later are quite modern. But what about the Beocenter 7007, which was introduced in 1983, the same year as the 5000 system. Since there's always been products of different designs produced at roughly the same time, it's really not that easy to set a date at which the "Classic" or "Vintage" era end and the "Modern" era begins.

That's why I'd also like to see subfora dedicated to specific systems, or ranges of systems, for example the BC9000 range, the BS5000-7000 range, and so on. But I also don't want the forum to be absolutely clogged with subfora.

Oh, and I'm not sure about the vocabulary, but in my world "fora" is the plural form of "forum". Or perhaps I need to brush up on my Latin. Laughing

I would make the forum title Classic B&O - for products no longer made. If it were just for the vintage equipment, it wouldn't get much traffic.

Re: Please bring back the 5000/5500/6500/7000 system forum - Here Here

I think one forum for all discontinued items is far too general. I understand the desire to "tidy things up" but I certainly dipped into the old forum on a regular basis as I love these systems. I'm not going into the new vintage one nearly as often because I'm a lazy so and so and can't be bothered to wade through the other stuff.....that was the attraction - you could go straight to the posts you were interested in..... Surely the proof of the pudding is how often was the old forum visited / added to ?  Quite regularly I would suggest.... Unlike the beoworld auction site which was quite rightly canned because nobody used it. ( That's not a dig, Steve - I think you were quite right to give it a try)

    BRING IT BACK !

    Cheers

Not bothered either way really (although I do own a 5000 system) since you can always use the search facility but in defence of those in the "For"  camp the 7000 system was in production until '95 - does that really count as vintage??

Another thought that crosses my mind is how many people are there with systems in this category (many of those that still like records and uncompressed music!).  There must be a large number of people with one of the afore-mentioned  systems as their production spans 15 years.  I would hazard a guess that there are probably as many in this category as in the older teak and rosewood grouping.

Personally I would vote for 3 fora - a wooden era forum (accepting that there will be some overlap), a 5000- 7000 forum and then a Later or Modern forum!

Is it time for a vote or survey?

    Technically vintage is defined as

characteristic of the best period of a person’s or a producer’s work, classic; of an old style, from the past.

That raises a whole fresh argument as to what is the best period of B&O!

The General Forum should cover the Modern era - indeed that is really what it is designed for. I know there is a fair bit of chit chat at present but quite a lot of that is the general buzz of the new site. We do have a lot of traffic at present - 10.000 posts in 3 weeks is pretty staggering! I have not been moving posts to lifestyle as I used to but will probably start. I am actually in favour of this being a useful and informative site and, although it must be friendly and easy going, would expect it to settle down a bit.
