Is the Beosound 1 from Bang & Olufsen worth the money?

I have recently bought a new flat & we want to go with the clean look..

That's why our thoughts are on the Beosound 1, i now that the latest models

have better speakers & that the cd lins is new!

But how about the sound, is it ok or really good?? I asked my B&O retailer

& he said that the Beosound 1 sound better than the Beosound Century!

Is there anyone in here who agrees with him?

    Many regards

    Mathias B

Its a brilliant little system - I use one at home most days - and you can use it as an ipod dock too.

I have had mine for about a year. I recently bought some beolab 4000s. The 4000s sound better but I love my beosound one and I would highly recommend the Beosound one for a small apartment. My beolabs are only for the TV and beosound one for music.

I live in a small apartment too and the BS1 fills the room nicely. I would also get a stand as the bass seems to be better when it is on the stand. It is a great system that packs a mean punch for it's size! B&O did a great job and the only thing it is missing is master link.

There is nothing wrong with the sound of the BS1! It is really impressive!

I auditioned both the BS1 and a Century when new. I preferred the Century and bought one. The BS1 is very good but it has no tone controls and the bass seemed to be lacking compared to the Century, despite the technical specs which would suggest otherwise.

I have to confess that it they made a link version of the BS1, I would buy one immediately though.

    Hello Mathias,

I have used my BeoSound1 for several years. Overall build and sound quality is excellent. Don't expect a disco sound, but due to the integrated "central speaker" (a large woover), the sound is powerful and well equalized, especially for classical music.

    Regards,

I have enjoyed my BS1 for 6-7 yrs.  I've never missed the tone controls.  Definitely a nice unit for a smaller room.

I have to agree with Peter to some extent.  I have both Beosound 1 and Century.  I find that (because of the lack of tone controls) the beosound 1 sounds fairly ordinary at low volumes compared to the Century.  It appears to liven up though when played at louder volumes.

The Beosound 1 can also serve as a Home Entertainment centre, by using the plug socket under the bottom of the unit. This is the same socket used for the IPOD connection.

Considering the small size containing 5 speakers inside, the stereo sound coming from a SAT TV box or DVD player is remarkable. It can even get downright loud.

I have been considering mounting my BS1 under my LCD for this reason but I can't really decide if it is worth it or not. I may just give it a shot.

Re: Is the Beosound 1 from Bang & Olufsen worth the money?

Originally, we had purchased a small circular stand on bearings to turn the BS 1 around as needed, to face the couch, hallway, or terrace.

We later had a few pieces of granite cut and polished for the TV cabinet tops. We found that the granite allowed the BS 1 to be moved to any listening angle easily enough on its own. The ability to choose and change the BS 1 alu foil screen colours adds another dimension to this device, as you can change the colour to suit the room and mix and match as you like.
