While waiting for a better HDR (2 tuners and 5.1 sound, please!) or a possibility to upgrade my Avant's STB-controller to control the PVR from my cable provider (Canal Digital Norway), I have decided to 'go retro'. Ahhh - the days when we could easily record one TV programme while watching another - and tape our favourite radio programme once a week with timer recording. And for the picture quality of LCDs....

Have got my hands on a Beocord VX 7000. I understand they came in two versions, for different remote controls. I don't know which version the machine is. Can both versions be operated with a Beo4 (through the Avant)?

Yes you will have no problems controlling your VX7000 with a Beo4 through your Avant. Used to do the same with my BV3-32, I had the earlier version of the VX7000. Which was designed for use with a two way Beovision and Remote. Hope this helps.
