    BV7-40 , no 5.1 with a Ps3

My Bv7-40 Mk111 isn't picking up that the Hdmi input from the Ps3 is 5.1 , the rear speakers aren't coming in . Not familiar with the menus' on this Sony yet but I have seen it state on the screen that the disc is 5.1 somewhere , the Tv input AV2 is set to Hdmi . No problem with the Dvd in the Tv , it picks up that a disc is 5.1 and all speakers come on . Is their a setting wrong somewhere for Av2 and Sony ?

You will have to access the sound menu on the PS3 and tick off those formats you would like.

Hello Rodger . Sound settings in the Sony are - Connector type = Hdmi   -  Output format = Dolby Dig. 5.1 ch.  &  DTS 5.1 ch.   , then a load of Linear Pcm. settings , haven't got a clue what these are but probably half of the possible list is ticked . Got a B&o engineer coming on Thursday to put in the Ps3 control software but hoping to get this sound problem sorted before then .

    I have DD5.1, DTS and ACC + PCM2 44,1 and PCM2 44. Try to uncheck the others!

    Hello Mr. Anders(son) . Checked DD5.1, DTS and ACC + PCM2 44,1  but couldn't find PCM2 44 in my list and un-checked the rest  . still no 5.1 .
PCM2 44.1 is checked but greyed out so couldn't change it anyway . As that set-up didn't solve the problem I went in again and selected auto and the settings reverted back to as they were .  I can get all the speakers on by selecting List Speakers 5 but is that true 5.1 ?

While playing a Blu-Ray disc, please enter the MENU system of your tv and go the the sound part and select the sound system menu - this will give you a read-out of the input and outpur formats currently being used by the tv. I have no problems when connecting the PS3 to BS3, but as the PS3 is moved around I am aware of the fact that you will have re-select the sound output format as you connect to a different system.

    It is
    Input format
    Multichannel PCM
    Output
    Multichannel PCM
    Speakers 3
If I go out and then into speaker test and go to each speaker in turn to make certain the all work and then go back to Sound system the output is then Speaker 5 . Shut down and start again output is back to Speaker 3 ? This Ps3 is permanently connected to this Bv7 and doesn't get moved around .

Is your problem already fixed? If yes, how?

Hello Doc .  Well yes and no , the engineer came to sort out a problem ( would turn it self off occasionally ) and I demonstrated the procedures I did listed above to get the rears to come on . He didn't know why the next time I used the Ps3 the rears didn't react ( the Tv's Dvd player puts the rears on ) , he changed the Tv default stat-up settings to Speakers 5 . I don't think this is the correct solution but obviously works and seams to be 5.1 when a discs has this format but am going to push for a proper fix  . I should change to speakers 3 for normal viewing but don't usually bother .
