    b&o 1001

hello bill here . I've just bought a 1001 which looks in very good condition but i'm stuck on a couple of technical points - I'm looking to transport the stereo but how do i lock the deck? And what is the function of Ambio with the wave symbol. Any tips or diagrams relating to wiring it up? Any cartridge recommendations for the deck? Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. The deck has pretty basic suspension and I don't think it locks. It is not a sprung sub chassis like the later models.

The Ambio facility uses the differences between the two main channels to produce a 'presence' channel which is fed to rear speakers  - usually smaller than the fronts and this gives a basic type of surround sound. It works with any stereo record.

An SP6/7 cartridge or an SP14 will work best with this deck. A bit tricky to find these days! Don't pay too much!

Very nice system - the Beomaster is a wonderful design.  It does work particularly well with the designated speakers and produces a sound far greater than the sum of its parts.

thanks for the help on this. i hope the deck is not broken as the chassis feels very sprung.its flat and stable at rest and turns well but it wil wobble when one lifts it up to move it. is this normal

the speakers it came with are type 6246 are these the fronts you mentioned. what are the correct rear speakers to go with the 1001

i wll look for the cartridge thanks

i love the design of the system and look forward to hearing it.

     thank you for the guidence

The Beogram 1001 is very wobbly. What you describe is normal. The suspension is much softer than that of the Beogram 1000.

Any of the 1960's and early 1970's speakers will be fine with your Beomaster 1001. The Beovox 1001 would be obvious of course but a bit rare.

The manual for the receiver actually went on site last night! I don't have the Beogram one!
