    Beomaster 5000 and Beolink 1000

I've heard that there is a gizmo that'll allow these two to talk to each other, and despite looking in the usual places, i've never come accross one for sale. In terms of rarity, should I just give up and buy a terminal 5000 instead?

The MCP hardly sits on the arm of the sofa very well, i'd like something a bit more ergonomic, and my existing beolink 1000 fits the bill.

Tim Jarman at Beocentral has one! (I gave it to him!) He might accept an offer if you ask nicely! A lot easier to get a terminal 5000 though!

It's called the "IR code convertor" (available from 1989 - 19??)

It is a little box with an MCL-type IR-eye (the rectangular one) and an MCL cable, which is connected to SPEAKER 2 on the Beomaster. It used the extra pins on speaker 2 to control the Beomaster.

The little box has the following connections: TAPE, CD, IR-out, passive speaker out (left/right)

It can control the following devices:
    Beocenter 7000, 7002, 7007, 7700
    Beomaster 5000, 6000, 8000
    Beovision M20, MX2000
    Beovision 5502, 7702, 7802, 8802, 8902, 7102, 8102, 5500, 7700, 8800, 9000

Re: Beomaster 5000 and Beolink 1000

I sent Tim a PM over on the Beocentral forum. Does nobody visit that forum anymore? its vey quiet!

I was thinking a that Terminal 5000 would be easier, but even the ergonomics of that leave alot to be desired, and i'd be frightened of dropping or scratching it.

Does the Beomaster 5000 use an odd IR code like the newer B&O equipment? What I mean is, can I use a learning remote, such as a Logitech Harmony or Philips Prestigo? I looked at the specifications of both, and they are 455MHz capable, but the FAQ of the Harmony states that it wont work with '86 onwards equipment, i.e. Beolink 1000 etc.

    Cheers,

    Ben

I found this old post because I'm trying to find an old code convertor too. I was trying to find any identification numbers for it to help in my searches. I can tell you it is possible to program a Harmony remote to control the BeoSystem 5000. I have a 890 set up for that.

    BeoSystem 5000 (BM 5000, BG 5005, BC 5000, CD50), BeoCenter 3500, BeoCenter 2500, BeoLab 2500, BeoVox S-45, S-45.2, RL-140, CX-100, CX-50, C-75, 3 MCL82 link rooms, A8, 4001 relay and ambio
