    BeoVision 7-40 Versus BeoVision 9

    Hi All,

I am thinking about purchasing either BV7 or BV9 for my family room. I found a dealer who is giving me 25% off on BV7 if i a buy a display model. I like the fact that i am able to save a little bit money if i go with the BV7 but if money is not the issue what would be the way to go and why?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Compare the two TVs side by side and decide by yourself. This is the best advice. Bring your own DVDs for testing and check with HD programming as well.

    Good luck!

If money is no issue, the BV9 has the better picture. The BV7 does have the DVD player though. The BV9 is also a lot bigger!

Well, both TVs are really in a class of their own regarding the overall picture and sound quality. There are some differences however.

What type of BV7-40 is your dealer offering? There are the first few types, then MKII and the new MKIII. I suspect it's a MKII if the dealer is willing to give you a 25% discount. The MKII is not even near the BV9 so let us assume it is an MKIII. Better ask your dealer about this.

Altough the BV7 and BV9 match in Sharpness, the BV9 has the better picture. Compare them side by side and you will notice that the BV7 is "brighter". The colours are more authentic on the BV9. Not only black but all colours. If you have access to High-Definition via Cable or satellite, the BV9 is a great choice. The slightly smaller panel of the BV7 gives you a better picture with analogue cable.

What kind of setup are you planning for in the future? The BV7 offers a magnificient stereo-type loudspeaker, while the BV9 has a fantastic center speaker which, although fantastic in quality, is mono and is best enjoyed with an additional pair of loudspeakers in the front.

If money is no issue go for the BV9 with BeoMedia1. You can do a lot more with BeoMedia1 then B&O is telling you ;) .

    Greetings from Germany

    Alex,

Since we're in the North America Forum, we must assume that we're talking about a MK3, as no earlier units have some to the States; and since we're talking about getting a 25% discount, I also think we need to assume that money does matter.

Personally I love the BV-7-40/US.  Unless you have a problem with the screen size, I'd take it.

    Russ,

sure you are right. Forgot about the different markets for a moment Embarrassed

A new BV7 for 25% less sound like a good bargain. Buy it as long as it is available. A great TV for sure.

I will have to qualify myself up front by saying that, in general, I prefer plasma screens to LCD screens. In fact, I have a 65" Panny plasma driven by a BS3 and find the picture quality to be stunning. The BS3 thinks that the Panny is a BV4 and identifies and controls it as such.

That having been said, I recently bought a BV7 as a second system and am equally thrilled with it. It is the only LCD screen I have ever seen that holds its own with the best of plasma displays. I looked at the Samsung 40" screen on which the BV7 is based, and the B&O variant is light years better.

I have only seen a BV9 in a dealership and perhaps it wasn't being demoed to best advantage, but to my eye the plasma display didn't come anything near the BV7 in overall picture quality, seen side by side with the same source material. Just my opinion, however.

You may both be right, sort of. It may be that the BV9 screen has 1080p capability but is only being fed a 1080i signal from the electronics. I can't speak about BV9, but this is apparently the case with BS3 and BV7. I do know that those two units running 3.x firmware only output 1080i from the electronics and apparently rely on the screen to deinterlace to 1080p. The very recent firmware version 4.x enables these units to output true 1080p. I am getting my BS3 and BV7 upgraded to 4.02 next week and should then be able to see if the new firmware makes any significance in picture quality.

    FFR:

All of the plasma screens shipped into the US since last summer (June/July '07) have been 1920x1080.  There are still a few MKi's floating about in the shops, but new orders shipped from the warehouse are MKII.

     That being said, I appreciate the BV-9, but I 'want' a BV-7.

BeoVision 7 hands down. I'll never be comfortable with the BeoVision 9. I like it more some days than others, but it always makes me miss the BeoVision 5.

The 7 on the other hand, is as perfect a TV as I've seen since the Avant. If you won't miss the 10" go for the 7.
