    BeoTalk 1200 / BeoCom 6000 Power Adapter RJ11 Wiring?

    Hi All

I appear to have miss placed my power adapter for the BeoTalk 1200 during a recent move and given they dont seem to be a readily available spare anymore I am trying to connect a standard transformer to the RJ11 connection

I took a look at the transformer with my BeoCom 6000 an they seem to be identical however; the 3 cables entering the RJ11 jack are not colour coded hence I would need to "hack" my existing one to determine which one is which (this being a last resort)

Has anybody similar experience usiing standard transformers for these products and does anybody know the crimping order for the RJ11 jack?

    Thanks in advance

    Greg

The Beocom 6000 transformers are still available from your dealer. To save mucking about I would buy one of them.

Just find a dealer who can be bothered to look at his computer!

    Hi Greg,

Did you ever got this sorted? I managed to do this for my 1200 and 6000. Bought RJ11 plugs on ebay together with crimping tool. I had to change my 110V adapters for 220V  ones (which I also found on ebay)

Used a voltage meter to determine to polarity from old and new to figure out the correct wiring connection.

    Regards

Review of Beocom 6000 Pyramid Base Wiring Connections

The following are the connections for the pyramid base of the Beocom 6000.

The wiring consists of a "T" adapter as below with three RJ11 sockets in it. Whilst RJ11 connectors can support up to 6 pins, the power and line sockets only use two pins (pins 2 & 5) and the Appliance (base) socket uses four pins (Pins 2 to 5)

The wiring for this connector is as follows:-

The mains power adapter is an unregulated unit with a loaded output voltage of 7.5 volts and rated at 0.5 amps. Below is a picture of the UK version of this power adapter:-

     Great diagram Keith,

One caveat, the phone plug wiring in your diagram is  for the UK. In US( and I think Europe adopted the US wiring)  pin 3 & 4 a are used for the phone signal wires and pin 2 & 5 for the earth and bell signal. In most cases it is just a 4 pin connector.

This I think is breaking up people when they move from UK  abroad and bring their (BT) wiring with them. Best thing to do I find is to use a plain cable, with no cross wiring, i.e. 2 to 2 3 to 3 4 to 4 5 to 5 and use an adapter specific for the country to make the connection to the wall socket.

    Regards

what about the connector inside the base. I've bought the phone without the cable and now i dont know which cables goest to adapter and which to telephone line.

    Hi

You need a special splitter piece from beocom as shown by the posting Keith made in this thread.

So there is one cable coming from the base station into the splitter. On the other side, one goes to the power adapter and one goes to the telephone connection.

but there are no transformators or other electrical components in the the "splitter". I sholuld be able to connect the wires straight to the power and line directly from the pyramid. I took a picture of the pyramid and the connector with 4 wires. It would be easy just to solder cables directly to the board.

I suggest that you either get the correct cable from a B&O dealer or you could make a cable, but do NOT solder on the base printed circuit module itself.

The following is a picture of the colours of the wires going into the plug in the Beocom 6000 base:-

The colours of the wires into the RJ11 plug are in the same order:-

    • Pin 2 is white
    • Pin 3 is green
    • Pin 4 is Blue
    • Pin 5 is Red

The pins of the RJ11 plug are counted from left to right with the gold pins facing you as above and pins 1 and 6 are missing in the B&O plug.

And as noted above, in mainland Europe (and US) the phone line uses pins 3 & 4 (i.e the two middle pins, as the connector may actually have four or even eight pins depending on the adapter - in Europe, the wall socket varies by country).

Whilst the cable FROM the "T" connector to the Telecoms provider socket is different by country, I am talking about the cable FROM the Beocom 6000 Pyramid base TO the "T" connector which is the same everywhere.

Certainly, but I thought about this guy who doesn't have any of the cabling, but wants to build them himself. All I'm saying is that the pins 3 & 4 in the pyramid connector will ultimately need to connect to the middle pins in the wall socket (or socket adapter) in mainland Europe (and US), or there will be no phone line connection...

Keith, thanks for the wiring diagram!

Do you know about any difference to the Beocom 4? Same voltage and wiring? The wire colors are at least the same.
