Please can someone help me?  I've just come home to find that one of the bass drivers in my Penta loudspeakers has been damaged, it has been pushed in and now no sound is coming from it.  If you move it back and forwards by hand, you can feel the driver rubbing against the magnet inside.  We've had various in-laws visiting, so not sure who could have been the culprit.....

Is this beyond repair?  If so, does anyone know where I can get a replacement speaker cone please?  Are they expensive?  If anyone has a spare that they would be willing to sell, please let me know!

The back of the speaker has the following writing: "8480197  881TNI" and it is a 4 1/2 inch woofer with a rubber surround.

I would REALLY appreciate any help or advice you can offer!

Have you spoken to your local B&O dealer?, you may well find that the original units are still available.

In case anyone else has the same problem, here's the solution for future reference:

The Penta bass speakers are still available new from B&O, part number 8480197, UK price (December 2007) £19.75 each inc. VAT.  Penta midrange speakers are slightly more expensive at £25.00 each, the part number for these is 8480106.  I didn't ask about the tweeter, as this looks strong enough to withstand a nuclear blast!

I'm considering "toddler proofing" my lower two bass speakers in each column by bolting on plastic speaker grilles inside the fabric covers to prevent similar damage in future.  Has anyone else tried this?

I actually found an oem source for the midranges at $6 US each.  The only problem is the ones in the pentas don't have a flange since they're recessed, whereas the oem ones have a square flange, so you would need to know how to use a lathe to cut the surround into a circle shape.  Given that, it would probably be easier for most to just use the b&o ones.  Unfortunately the specifications are pretty poor.  If mine ever died I'd probably just replace them with a better driver and try to tweak the cross-over to accommodate it.  The tweeter is actually a high quality piece - a 19mm tweeter made by SEAS for b&o, although the only difference I can tell between the one made for the pentas and the original SEAS one is that the penta one is 8ohms while the original SEAS one is 6ohms.  I guess b&o didn't feel like worrying about impedance matching in the crossovers, and decided it was easier just to tell SEAS to make them an 8ohm version to match the 8ohm woofers and 4ohm+4ohm midrange pairs.  Unfortunately I was never able to nail down the original manufacturer of the woofers.
