I'm considering to purchase a BeoMedia one. Anybody out there with good or bad input on this device. Can I hook it up to my cordless router easily, or will I have to connect to broadband via the PC ? (It's not close to the PC...) The Dane

You don't want to wait for the Beosound 5, to be released in 2008? Or should I say Beomaster 5... This product is believed to be a Beomedia device with controls. The controls that are missing on the Beomedia 1. tip: Do the Star of the Day contest NR.5 on the bang-olufsen.com site. the video will give you a hint how the new mediacenter will look like.

Hi I have one and I have good experience with it.. Family even enjoys it :-) You can choose between these two options so there should be no problem to install. Dane 2

As Dennis mentions, either way. I use mine with a Linksys G56 WLAN and it works fine. The really great point about the unit, is that it allows us to surf our preset Internet favorite using the Beo 4. Since our PC has been connected ( RGB + now HDMI ) to our Living Room Plasma for the past 5 years, we can stand, walk around the room, take it upstairs and continue surfing via the system link. And look at photos, videos, etc. And it does enhance photo quality. We did this before with a Gyro Bluetooth mouse, which became somewhat of a Circus act with arms and hands waving around in the air to click or scroll onto something on the screen. The Gyro investment came with a small keyboard, on the premise of enhancing my Powerpoint presentations at conferences, which was also amusing to watch, I was later informed. But a very good workout with a suit and tie on. One caveat I will make is to scan all photos, video clips, and music for infections: Check and double check. I have no idea how a virus would react in the Beomedia 1, but with the hard drive inside, I take no chances for hacker effluent to float around, repopulating inside the system. But now it is fun, and relaxed experience.

Henry:My dealer had told me last weekend that BeoSound 5 will be replacing BeoMedia 1. I recommend you look into this further. He mentioned the launch of the BeoSound 5 has actually been delayed until the new software for BeoMedia 1 is out in Spring 2008.
But I dont think you can use Web on BS5!!? It´s only for N.Radio and N.Music internal HDD or streaming!!?

The Beosound 5 does sound exciting. According to the store I just spoke with in Germany, this is a new audio system set for release in Sept-Oct of 2008. Details were not " officially specific " but give the impression of a unit with HD capacity of 100 x music my BS 3200 unit. Included is an Internet interface similar to Beomedia 1. No further details I have, or can release.

Niveau and Alex: I share your enthusiasm for N.RADIO, especially DAB. CLASSIC FM in London is one of our favorite stations on our B&O playlist. I can access good DAB audiophile quality via the B&O Beoport, and enjoy it live in Europe, North America, or Brasil. If I were to guess, I would think that the Beoport and Beomedia software would be built into the new Beomaster 5 device as one unit, including the manual controls as Coolskin mentioned above. Given the current, known qualities of HD digital storage technology, one might think that additional CD storage would be available over the current amount ( 400 ) now available in my BS 3200. 10x, 100x, 100x, ? Brainstorming the known recording options featured in the new current version of Beoplayer, one could also speculate that additional features for recording quality would be another feature offered in this unit. It will be interesting following this new device up to the relase date in 2008. Now if I can only download, transfer, record and play 1T of music in the Porsche . . . .

What do you mean by DAB via BeoPort?
I personally wouldn't say DAB/N.Radio is 'audiophile' quality. DAB is 128-160k MP2, which is similar in sound to 96k MP3. I'd say you really need at absolute minimum, 256k MP3 before you start to get 'audiophile' grade sound. 320 is preferable. Internet radio is generally much better (between 128k MP3 and 224k MP3).

DAB station signal transmission via Beoport N.RADIO. Versus a DAB radio itself as I had when working in London. Are you listening to the N.RADIO as it comes in raw over the Internet, or configuring the signal reception level desired via Beoport ?

I don't use BeoPlayer, I use iTunes instead. All the stations I listen to are at 128k, which sound considerably better than any DAB station I've heard.
I still am not sure what you mean by DAB over BeoPort? Do you mean listening to a DAB radio (such as from a BeoSound 4) through your BeoPort over BeoLink?

Alex; Yes, I use Beoplayer ( and Media Centre, Media Player, and music from the BS 3200 ) all through BL 4000 or BL 2000 ML connections with Beoport. MACPRO at work, with Beoplayer, and MACBOOK PRO laptop with Beoplayer for travel. I am amazed at what Apple/MAC is able to offer today, but at the time we started using Beoplayer and ML, it wasn't quite compatible. You could use a B&O DAB system for N.RADIO. The slight delay in the stereo separation of the DAB signal comes across via N.RADO. The DAB stations on N.RADIO sound significantly better, at least to our family ( Our subjective opinion, of course )

The BeoMedia 1 does a good job (maybe not for the price you pay, but still) but it is about to be terminated. You can no longer order the BeoVision 9 with the built-in BeoMedia 1. The BeoSound 5 will be split in two as with the BeoCenter 2: The BeoSound 5 will be the panel and the BeoMaster 5 will be the socket unit. The socket unit can be built into the BeoVision 9 (available as an option approx two months after the launch of the BS5). The BeoSound 5 will be available this Fall. Roger

The BeoMedia and DVD2 have both been discontinued. As far as the DVD2 goes, I would very very strongly recommend you look at the BeoCenter 2 instead - it's a massively superior player.
As for the 'BeoSound 5', there has been no information about it other than B&O stating that 'it' will be appearing later this year. Nothing else is really known about it directly from B&O, but there are rumours flying around like there was no tomorrow...

Roger:The main idea is to hide the BeoMaster 5 without using a cabinet - the BeoSound 5 is so cool you do not want to hide it! Roger
ok but if I have BV9 already? what shall I do?
