I would quite like one of these, I have just done a quick search on Ebay and there are none in the UK but a few in Denmark (no surprise there really).

 

Are these really rare/expensive and will it control my Avant/Overture.

I don't care - it looks good thats the only reason I want it (oh yeah and to turn the TV over). How much? Does it come with the charger and does it have to be wall mounted as I live in a rented flat (when I say have to will it look stupid if it does not)

Not wishing to stop a sale, but the Beolink 7000 is a truly rotten remote for your system! I have one and almost any other remote will be better. A BL7000 will cost you about £350 for a new one. For this you can almost get a Beo5 which is far more flexible in a one way system like the Avant and Ouverture. If you really want a BL7000, get a system it will work with - the Beocenter 9500 is a good way in. The whole point of the BL7000 is the two way communication - without that it is an expensive and not very good Beolink 1000.

Peter's point is valid but if you are anything like me then buy it for the styling and add to it in the future! It can't be beaten and as much as I love my new Beo 5 it doesn't have even half the style the BeoLink 7000 does! This is possibly one of my favourite B&O pieces of all time. Its not always about what works the best, what works with current setups (obviously to a certain extent, but...), what's old and what's new etc. Its about what YOU like and if you like it, and if you have something it will operate or you soon will have, then buy it! I am going to get one because I have always wanted one. I'll buy that first, admire it for ages, then buy something it will work with, like a BC9500 which Peter also mentioned!! Make sure you get one in mint condition though, they don't look good with scratches and marks on!

Gonna have to disagree with Simon on this one and agree with Peter. The magic of the BL7000 comes from the two-way communication and without it, you've basically got a very heavy/oversized/battery-gobbling BeoLink 1000, and the BL1000 would be better because it's more rugged and faster/easier to use.

If you had a BeoSystem 7000 or any other fully two-way capable system, then the BL7000 would be your best option. However, seeing as you don't have one of these, the Beo5 is a better option for you.

As for looking into the future, buying two-way kit is not the future, as it was at least 10 years since any of it was made

I have a Beolink 7000 RDS combined to a Beocenter 9500, and I love it. The two way communication doens't work with a 2300/2500 but the RDS radio does

I'm going to be very poor after this! I have always wanted an ouverture/2300/3000 but i also really want a 9500 with a 7000, that'd be amazing.

The thing that disturbs me is the price of the floorstand for a BL7000 is off the charts, 400 pounds?!

that's not entirely true I think - I did come across a 2500 that was two-way years ago ....

In my view, a large part of the beauty is function as well as form. The fact that the blue screen would be unchanging to all intents and the top display unresponsive would mean that a large part of the 'beauty ' would be missing. I think if I were a student and just starting my collection like the OP, I would leave it.

 To be honest, the only real reasons that I want it are to turn on my radio and TV. I know that it eats batteries and I know that it will not be used to its full potential with my current (or future) setup. However, the fact that it looks so good and moves up and down, looking like it does more than it actually does is my main reason for getting one. I was not looking for one new. I probably would not use it that much once the novelty has worn off - I mean I already have the proper remote for this system (can't remember its name - the long thin aluminium one with the LCD screen at the top.

You have a Beo4. The Beolink 7000 is not available new - they were over £600. A second hand one will cost about £350. The batteries are rechargeable so don't need replacing unless old - just done mine.

Also was the Beolink 7000 designed to work my TV and stereo or would I have to do some kind of bodge/hack to get it to work. Also if I got one from a  Danish seller would I have probs with language on keymaps etc or are these changeable?

Two way means that the TV or stereo is sending (and receiving) ir commands/info. On the remote you can see volume level, radio info etc. B&O had this in the late 80´s and early 90´s.

It would work Ok and the language used is English. Just doesn't work very well! Slow with one way and it is quite fragile. Problems include batteries reaching the end of their life, scratches, IR transmitters failing with age (old capacitors) and screens becoming dark. Having said all that, mine is one of the first (I bought it new when it came out) and works perfectly! If you decide to get one, make sure it is a good one as repairing them is not for the faint hearted.

Supply and demand! Never had a floor stand myself but if someone is willing to pay that, good luck to the seller!

I can confirm that the BEOLINK 7000 is two-way and works with the BEOCENTER 2500 as I have both and both are two-way and work perfectly together, I am selling both if anyone is interested

I think there is some problem with the last sentence ;)

I think it's correct this way:

I'am so happy, because, I can answer this question very correctly, because from this week I'am also a happy owner of a BC2300 also (yes, yes, yes! :) ), and it is working just perfect with the BL7000 in two way mode, just my "old" BC2500.

I do not know the exact time, when the 2300/2500 lost the two way compatibility, but the first ones surely does two way.

There are some minor thing which are not working, just like the "random" button of the BC2300, but the only not working thing is the RDS station name process, which working with the 7000/9000/9500 system if I know well.

The RDS feature only works with the 7000 system as far as I am aware. The 9500 doesn't have RDS. Not the most useful feature anyway as the name only appears on the blue screen and is very small!

I agree with Jon.  With my Beocenter 2500 and BL 7000, the remote would show details such as the source, track number and IIRC the volume level playing on the 2500 -- I am at present, literally, half a world away from my B&O so I can't check the details for you. 

Like Jon, I, too, am selling my Beocenter 2500.
