    Quick Questions - Ouverture & 2500

    Hi everyone,

Am considering replacing my hifi with a used B&O and have a few very quick questions which I'm not sure about.

The two I am looking at are the Ouverture and Beosystem 2500, what are the differences between the two?

Also, do either work with non B&O speakers (I don't really want to replace my speakers)?

Do they both have an Aux-In so I can plug in a minidisk deck?

    Thanks

Very similar - the Ouverture replaced the 2500 but is just an updated model. Both require active speakers or you can get a MCL2P power amplifier and use your present speakers. An alternative is the Beocenter 9300 which is essentially an Ouverture in a different box but with a power amplifier built in.

As far as differences are concerned, none that would make me choose the 2500 really - I would get as new a one as I can! If you don't use tape, the Beosound 3000 and 3200 are worth considering as they are that much newer and will therefore probably be more reliable.

All have Aux sockets so there will be not problem attaching a Minidisk player.

What about the BC2300? Would this be reliable enough?

I wouldn't recommend a BeoSound 2300 as I've heard B&O no longer make the laser for this unit anymore. I believe this is why Peter suggested a BeoSound 3000 and 3200.

However, on the other hand I think the BeoSound 2300 is the best looking unit of the Ouverture range.

AFAIK the linear laser of the last models is still available (or at least a replacement type).

The nonlinear laser on my Beosound 2300 was replaced by a linear type about a year ago. It's a perfect fit and as far as I know it's still available. Not sure, though...

Yes, if you look hard enough you can find two-way 2300's that have the newer, linear CD mechanism. Best of both worlds!

It is! I recently sold mine but I am now wondering if that was a mistake! I loved it. I thought I wouldn't need it because of my upgrade to the BeoSound 9000 but I miss it terribly! Good old B&O creating all these lovely products that I really can't bear it when I sell one! I can't comment on the replacement laser because I honestly don't know. I am sure it is correct information if that is what the dealers say. However, I would assume that a laser is a laser and doesn't really change much unless its red or blue! In what way could a BS3000 be more up to date than its predecessor (in terms of the laser) when it is still using a red light to read CDs? I can only say that I had years of joy with my BS2300. I always preferred the smaller visible clamp where you can see the CD spining, not the current one that covers the whole CD near enough as in the BS3000. Never understood why they did that.

i was told recently they changed the clamper as someone tryed to sue b+o as allegedly it brought on an epileptic fit as they watched the disc spin, i dont know how true this is, ive stared at it for ages and nothing happened, i even switched the lights on and off rapidly and still nothing, true or not i had fun trying

    Same as i heard..

I'd like to have seen you staring at the clamper, frantically switching the lights on and off.  You could possibly sue B&O for chronic arm-ache you know!

We have similar (and might I add, stylish) taste Simon. The larger clamper models on the BeoSound 3000 and 3200 do not look as good as the smaller aluminium clamper on the Ouverture and 2300. I love seeing the disc spinning, especially if the CD has a splash of colour on it.

I personally think B&O created the larger clamper for the BeoSound 3200 solely because music can be played via its hard drive and B&O might not want to give it away with a non-spinning CD. I have rephrased this sentence 5 times and still doesn't make sense. Just a personal thought really, but I can't really believe the epileptic or halusination stories!

yes that does sound plausable, i think it changed first on the beosound 3000 around the time of it being N-music compatible, so that does make sence,  the other story did make me smile though

Actually, the AUX is both In and Out, at least on the Ouverture.

But you have to chose in OR out, it only has one AUX connector. Smile

Not at all; you have both. The AUX connector is a DIN plug with lines both in and out. With a small adapter cable from DIN to 4 x RCA I am able to digitze some dear old cassettes with B&O Ouverture quality, incredibly good, actually. Also radio programs can be directed to the computer this way.

I had heard it was to prevent kids from sticking their fingers in, stopping the CD and breaking the mechanism.
