Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
Hi, Some time ago I bought a BeoPort unit with the purpose of adding N.MUSIC to my all-B&O set-up. However, I can only distribute the sound if BeoPort is connected to the PC's sound card using mini-jack AUDIO IN on BeoPort. Using the AUDIO IN connection also brings all the other computer sounds and the sound volume in link-connected systems depends on the PC's volume setting. Can that really be true? I'd thought that the sound was "grabbed" through the USB connection. Any advise is much appreciated. My set-up is as follows: - Main room
- Audio: BeoSound 4 - Option 0
- Video: BeoCenter 6 - Option 2
- Link room
- Audio: BeoPort - tried Option 0 and 6
- Video: BeoVision MX4200 - Option 6

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
The Beoport would normally be set to option 6. The audio signal is NOT transmitted over the USB, only the command and control signals use the USB. In the Advance Setting TAB of the Configuration menu (Click SETUP then CONFIG) there is a setting to allow PC sound to be mixed with other audio or not, so you will need to click on NONE. If you do NOT have the Advanced Menu, then you have installed Beoplayer software instead of Beoport. Also in the configuration menu there is a default volume adjustment, you can still adjust the volume independently in the other room.

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
I've managed to connect BeoPort to my system and I'm able to listen to N.MUSIC and control BeoPort using Beo4. However, I can't figure out how to suppress the PC sound - even though I follow Keith's recommendations. Another related question: Given that the audio is distributed through the PC's sound card, I assume that the quality of the sound card has significant influence on the resultant sound in the speakers. Is that correct? If yes, any recommendations for sound cards? Thanks, Thomas

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
Thomas, I am pleased that you have managed to get most aspects working now, but lets look again at the sound mixing. As I said previously you need to go to the ADVANCED tab and your should look like teh one below:- Note that MIX Sound must be off. The quality of the sound card does have influence on the resultant sound, but most good quality soundcards these days can be found in most mid to high range PC's, I use a Sound Blaster Live card in my PC which provides good results even if it is quite old now..

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
Thanks Keith and sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I have the exact configuration and I still hear the PC's Windows sounds. Of course, I can disable all other sounds in Windows but that's not really what I wanted to do. Wonder were I'm mistaken? Merry X-mas, Thomas

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
Thomas, Well, that's very interesting problem. Can I just confirm with you a few points:- - Do you have speakers connected to your Powerlink sockets of your Beoport ?
- Do you have seperate PC speakers connected to your PC sound card ?
- Does your PC have it's sound card in a PCI slot or built onto the PC motherboard ? i.e. teh sound connectors are on one of the plug in cards or not ?

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
I have the same problem and interestingly it been this way for a number of upgrades too. I hear PC sound through the ML system and can not get rid of it. I have the configuration set properly (as per your print screen). I have BeoLab 4000s connected via powerlink to the BeoPort black box, the sound card is built into the motherboard
BV10, AvantDVD, BS3000, BL8000, BL6000, BL4000, BL3500, BeoPorts, BC9300, BC7002, CX100s, C75s, Beo4s, BC6000s, LC2s, A9, A8s,

Re: Connecting BeoPort to the PC - what's necessary?
BeoPort takes what the headphone jack/audio out sends it.
You can turn "system sounds" off on PC different ways with different machines and XP versions under Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Sounds tab. I turned all those nasties off. That is the only way I was able to end cross talk other than only use BeoPort, only. The real purpose for the "mix" setting, according to the guide, is for you to mix things like PC game sounds on BO system along with ML sources like CD, etc. Don't really get the advantage of it, and the default is where I have always left it. That, plus the fact I love BeoPort, is all I know. Ray
