Just tried watching a DVD and the disk failed to load. More worrying was the noise the player made (crackles/scratching/creaking). All other DVD's play fine with no noise and the suspect DVD plays in my PC with no problems??

Had the same problem with my Phillips DVD Recorder. Some discs just will not play, when it rtries it sounds as though it is destroying the disc. Stick them in the X-box or the £30 DVD player in the bedroom and they play no problem. Not sure why this happens though.

It's because the DVD disk is out of spec. return the DVD and go to another store and bay it.

Is the DVD warped ?

Only a thought, but had a couple of warped ones that sound like a disc cutter when the Avant has tried to play them!!

No it sits flat on my desk. Its a Tesco's online DVD Rental disk and I've had problem disks from them before. The last one froze three quarters the way through The Last King Of Scotland. Very annoying.
