    Beosystem 3 and 1080p/24p

I recently updated my Toshiba XE1 HD-DVD player with the 1080p/24p update. With my JVC HD1 1080p projector I get a fantastic smooth picture without any judder....a real improvement!

Unfortunatley when I connect the Tosh to the BS3 instead directly to the HD1 a 24p image is not displayed anymore...so judder again.

Do I need to configure somthing different?

    thanks

    Karsten

    Dear Karsten,

Go to the service menu of the Beosystem 3 and try the various "Film Mode" options (On, Off, and Auto). Off should fix the problem.

By default , the 3:2 pulldown option  (which is Film Mode in B&O terminology)  is set to AUTO.

    Regards,

    Jean

    Hi,

Is it only the BeoSystem 3 that has the "Film Mode" option? Or does the BeoVision 7 also have that option? And if so, what is it called? At least I cannot find this option in my BeoVision 7 in the service menu.

I have read a number of threads where the "Film Mode" is mentioned, including a thread suggesting to this to OFF if the picture is very dark. I have this problem. My picture is very dark when I watch  TV thorugh my STB. I have tried to adjust the "regular" color and brightness adjustments in the normal menu both with not much luck.

    BR,
    Lars.

The Beosystem 3 doesn't handle 24p... Maybe a new SW upgrade will solve that...

    Re: Beosystem 3 and 1080p/24p

Before I updated my tosh I called the B&O Tech support in Munich, they told me that they don't see any problem with 24p.

However, I don't think that they ever have tested this....

@beolab, could you please share with me where you got your inforamtion?

    thanks

According to B&o service Stockholm the 4.03 firmware update will include 24p support...

Quick update from B&O suport: Current version does not support 1080/24p, no idea if get fixed with a software update.

HDMI 1.3 is not needed for 24p, 1.3 adds an extended color mode and the new HD audio codecs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Definition_Multimedia_Interface#HDMI_1.3)

You're correct KAWO, HDMI is not related to 24p capability (Deep Colour and HD-Audio). Interesting that BeoSys3 doesn't do 24p. Didn't know that.

@kawo: Exactly, what occurs when you connect the HD-DVD player to the Beosystem 3? Is the picture displayed properly (at 60Hz).

Also, when you connect the HD-DVD player with the 24p setting to the projector, what is the refresh rate selected by the projector?

    Re: Beosystem 3 and 1080p/24p

@Jean - a 1080p/60Hz picture is displayed on my JVC HD 1 without any problem, but with judder. I forced to BS3 to use the 60Hz rate in the service menu, without I had problems to display a signal on the projector (Error "out of freuquency range").

Unfortunately the JVC only displays the exact refresh rate in the service mode (and I don't know how to access this). Also I have the Firmware 2.5 on the XE1 with the judder every 42 sec, which is fixed with 2.7

    Hope that helps!

Is there any news on Beosystem 3 supporting 24p with the latest updates?

I think we are on version 4+ for the BeoSystem SW - right?

I think someone (Soundproof) stated that, sadly, the latest BS3 sw 4.0 doesn't support 24fps. I think there's already a 4.01 update, although all this does is add a sharpness option to the customer menu.

Does anyone know if supporting native 24fps could be achieved using a SW update? Or is B&O not doing this as it would require a HW update...

So sad when you have a nice plasma that can handle it and also a source ... but the middle ware (BS3) stops it.... :(

Aren't their any specifications on the internet who can confirm the 24 frames per second issue?

    Re: Beosystem 3 and 1080p/24p

Given that Toshiba added 24fps capability to their 1080p HD DVD players by way of a firmware update, what is preventing B & O from doing likewise for the Beosystem 3?

Is it perhaps that the processing in the Beosystem 3 is so good that it does not require a 24fps option?

I discovered that connecting a Toshiba E1 (maximum 1080i resolution) to my Pioneer LX608 did not produce judder.

The concensus view on another forum was that this was down to the Pioneer's excellent processing capability.

In fact,I could see no difference in performance between an E1 at 1080i,and an XE1 at 1080p/24.

    Re: Beosystem 3 and 1080p/24p

With the current software I have (4.00a) there is no 24p support, so still judder.

As far as I know the Pioneer Plasma's have nice feature for a reverse pull down processing (like a few video processor e.g. VP50), so  you will not see the judder. However, on my plasma (Panasonic TH-50) I don't see the judder to much due the viewing distance (3,70m), but on my 2,24m screen with the projector you will notice the judder in just a second....

For a high end video processor like the BS3 and the B&O promiss to deliver the best picture and viewing expirience 24p support is a must! With more and more Blue Ray player finding their way into consumers houses, B&O should (hopefully) have a fix soon.

If I put Filmmode to "off", am I getting rid of the judder then?

Thanks  jvezinaThat fixed the judder I'm getting with my new screen. A Panasonic TH-50PF20E.

Anyone know how I can convince the Beosystem 3 to recognise the screen - do I need to get a driver or something from B&O? It is only outputting at 1280 x 720 while the screen is full HD etc.
